Chapter 1 It took Alexis a moment to remember where she was and whose arms were wrapped around her waist. Moving nothing but her eyes, she looked out the window. She could tell it was still very early. Stretching and moving slowly, she climbed out of bed, trying not to wake Jax. She needed to get home. It was the first time she had thought about Ned and she was sure he was wondering where she was. She collected her clothes, never taking her eyes from Jax’s sleeping face. Before going into the bathroom, she bent down and planted a gentle kiss on his lips. * * * * * Carly walked across the wet morning grass. In a few hours she would be leaving Port Charles and there was one more goodbye she had to say. Kneeling by the headstone, she whispered, "Hi baby.” She ran her hand over the name etched in stone. "I’m going away Abby, so I won’t be able to visit you anymore,” Carly sobbed, letting her emotions got the best of her. ”I love you and I’m so sorry. It’s my fault you’re here!” She wiped the tears from her eyes. “Your daddy was right, I never should have taken my eyes off you. I’m just as guilty as AJ.” Carly’s mind went back to that horrible day six months ago. Flashback Carly, Michael and Abby were in the park. Abby was playing in the sandbox and Carly was watching her. Suddenly she heard yelling and turned to see Michael and another boy fighting. She rushed to break it up, and when she turned back to the sandbox Abby was gone. ”Abby!! Abby!!”Carly started running toward the sandbox, when she heard the car horn, a crash and people screaming. She knew what had happened. Carly ran into the street to find her precious baby on the ground. Abby was dead. AJ got out of the car, looking around in a drunken haze. End of Flashback Carly lay in the dirt and cried as Sonny' words replayed in her mind. “I’m sorry Abby. God, I’m so sorry I didn’t protect you.” Sonny was standing behind Carly with tears in his eyes. It was the first time he had seen her grief and guilt about their baby’s death. He had been so wrapped up in his own pain that he had somehow missed hers. ”Carly,” he whispered. She looked up to find him staring at her. New tears formed in her eyes as he bent down and took her in his arms. * * * * * Alexis opened the bathroom door trying not to wake Jax. She was almost out the door before he spoke . "So that’s how is going to be?” She jumped and whipped her head around. ”Jax, you scared me!” “You didn’t answer my question.” He got out of bed and moved across the room until he was standing in front of her. “What question?” Alexis asked, knowing what he meant. “You were going to leave without so much as goodbye.” He sounded hurt. Alexis saw the hurt in his eyes and closed her eyes. "Jax…” “I know you have a husband to get home too!” He spat at her. “Yes, I’m sure Ned is home wondering were I am,” she whispered, confused by his anger. “Are you sorry that we made love?” His tone softened. “No, I’m not sorry at all. Last night was incredible. I don’t have any regrets. Well maybe one.” She ran her hand over his bare chest. “What?” Jax asked in a husky voice. “That we waited so long,” Alexis whispered an instant before Jax’s lips covered hers. Jax fumbled with the buttons on her blouse, and she moaned his name. Her phone rang before it could go any further. “Damn, I need to get that.” “Yeah it could be Ned!” Jax’s voice was bitter. ”Jax… “Alexis started to say more, but Jax told her not to keep Ned waiting. “Alexis Ashton,” she said into her phone. “Monica, calm down. What happened?” Alexis listened to Monica and Jax watched her face turn pale as she put down the phone. “Oh my God! Ned!!” The room started spinning and her legs grew weak. The darkness followed. |
