Welcome to my USS Constitution page. This wooden ship model kit is made by Bluejacket. After the initial shock of the price, the model has gone together fairly well, but then again I deviated from the kit a little. The solid hull was carved 1/2 inch off center at the stern. That was hard to fix. I have elected not to use most of the wood that comes with the kit. I have also not planked the hull with copper as the original. At least not yet. Some of you ship builders out there may ask how I managed to get the dark lines between the hull planks. I stained and sanded three times with a red mahogony stain producing a very smooth hull and "tar" lines between the planks. Then I stained the hull with a mixture of dark walnut and colonial mapple and natural stains. I hope you enjoy these pictures. I am starting into the rigging stages now and will post more pictures as they are taken. To date, I have been working on this kit for 15 months. You will also notice in some of the pictures, there are white wires. These wires are for the 5 12 volt lights I mounted in the gundeck to make the interior more visible. They are also very small and almost unseen. |
