Wooden ship models come in a variety of sizes and difficulty levels. For beginers, smaller kits with more pre manufactured parts are a good place to start. As your skill increases and you like these kits, you can build larger more advanced kits. These can take years but the final product is very impressive. If you are like me, eventually, you will take the next step into "timbering sets". These are "kits" that comprise only a set of detailed plans, a couple of laser cut parts and a lot of bulk wood (usually hardwood) in which to build everything from the keel up to the cap rails. Masts and rigging is not supplied but can be accomplished by looking at the plans.
From this page, you can go to three different ship pages. These boats are in different stages of completion. These are all historic ships (my preference). The USS Constellation is completed. The USS Constitution is as far as I'm going to go with it and the "timbering set" USF Confederacy is in the final framing stages.
