Chapter 2

Nick walked into the restaurant and waited for someone to seat them. "So what's with this place?"

"I heard it was really good. Come on Nick, try new things." Brian finished, smiling at the hostess as she went to seat them. She placed the menus down and walked off.

"I hate restaurants." Nick mumbled.

"Why?" Brian asked, picking his menu up, starting to look it over.

"You have to be so proper and shit. I hate that."

"Oh grow up ya baby." Brian rolled his eyes.

Nick groaned and picked up his menu just as a cute waitress came over to take their orders.

"My name's Amanda, can I start you off with a drink?" She smiled, looking over at Brian.

Brian grinned. "Just a coke please."

Amanda smiled at him, scribbling quickly on her notepad and brought her gaze to Nick. "And you sir?"

"I'll just have the same." He muttered, his face still in the menu.

"Ok, I'll be right along with those." Amanda smiled again at Brian before taking off.

"Damn, Nick did you see her?! She was hot." Brian grinned.

Nick rolled his eyes and looked back down at the menu. He quickly picked something and when Amanda came back with their drinks, told her what he wanted and handed her the menu. He watched as Brian and Amanda flirted, shaking his head.

His gaze wandered over the room. Everyone eating and talking and laughing. He sighed heavily and turned to look back at Brian, when his gaze came across a young woman at one of the tables. He watched her as she laughed. He blinked, his heart picking up speed. He wasn't one to believe in love at first sight, but she was hot.

"Nick..."

He studied her intently as she leaned in to listen to something someone said, a smile creeping across her lips.

"Nick..."

Her hair was medium length and light brown. He was too far away to make out her eye color, he leaned out of the booth, squinting his eyes.

"Nick...earth to Nick!!" Brian yelled.

"Huh? What?" Nick turned his head to look at Brian.

"What's going on man? You're about to fall out of the booth."

Nick looked down to see he was hanging precariously on the edge of the seat. Sliding back quickly, he brought his gaze back to Brian.

"What was that all about?"

"Nothing."

Brian raised an eyebrow. "Uh-huh, you were ready to fall off the seat. What were you looking at?" Brian asked, turning to look. His gazed landed on the young woman and he smiled, bringing his gaze back to Nick. "Or should I say, who were you looking at."

"I saw her first!" Nick called out.

Brian laughed, looking back over at the table. "Actually, it looks like you're not the first." He pointed over to the table.

Nick turned to see the woman turn to the man sitting next to her, she smiled shyly before leaning over and kissing him. Nick slumped back in the seat.

"Sorry man."

"Damnit."

"Eh, don't worry about it. There's always others, not like you'd have a hard time finding one."

Nick stared blandly at him. He didn't want anyone else, but he didn't know why he wanted her. Just then their food came. Nick picked at it, still looking over at the table.

"Nick just let it go."

"I'm gonna...go to the bathroom." Nick announced suddenly, standing up and walking away from the table.

Brian watched him leave, shaking his head.

Keyana laughed as Erin finished her story. She looked over at her other best friend Gabrielle. The three of them had met in highschool and instantly clicked. All through high school and college they'd remained close, even though they each went to different schools.

Gabrielle Bessey and Erin Louks were total opposites. Gabrielle, quiet and reserved, and Erin wild and outgoing. They often disagreed on topics, but when it came right down to it, would do anything for the other. That's what Keyana liked about them. She herself was a mix between the two, that's why she got along with them so well.

She leaned over on her boyfriend of six months, Shane Watson. They'd met towards the end of her senior year in college and hit it off instantly, so when he'd asked her out when she'd been waiting for what seemed like forever, she didn't hesitate. He was everything she'd ever wanted in a guy, sweet, sensitive. Of course he was a guy, and she wished he'd be a little more romantic at times. Other than that she had no real complaints.

"K!...hello!!" Gabs waved a hand in front of her face.

"Oh...sorry! I sorta wandered off." Keyana giggled.

Gabs and Erin were the only ones she let call her a letter, even Shane knew better.

"So how were things at work today?" Erin asked.

"Long and tiring. I had to go and meet with some potential customers today. If I land this account, I'll be right up there behind the pros. I'm really hoping it works out."

"It will Keyana." Shane smiled.

"Well keep your fingers crossed." She smiled up at him before placing a quick kiss on his cheek.

"Pretty soon the title is gonna change from Clarkson & Rivers, to Clarkson & Johnson." Gabs smiled.

"Don't I wish." Keyana sighed wistfully.

Just then there was a loud crash and everyone turned to see a tall blonde guy rush into the bathroom. **********************************************************************
"Ok...smooth move Nick!" He sighed, splashing some water on his face. Clarkson & Rivers...he'd look it up once he got home and pay her a visit. With one last sigh he headed back out the door and quickly made his way over to the table, his head down. Sitting quickly he slid over and started shoving the food into his mouth which was cold by now. He looked up to see Brian staring at him puzzled.

"What?"

"It took you that long in the bathroom? What exactly were you doing in there?" Brian grinned at him.

"Shut up man!"

Brian bit his lip to keep from laughing. "Oh by the way, nice blocking there. One step to the left and you would've run right into that waiter while trying to listen to that girls conversation." Brian commented, before bringing his glass up to his lips.

Nick gave him another annoyed look before continuing to eat.
