Chapter 35

Keyana walked over to the filing cabinet and pulled out a file, she was due to meet with her next client in an hour and she wasn't prepared in the slightest. She'd been late getting to work this morning, and was totally unorganized. She didn't know how she'd made it through the rest of her appointments.

Ever since last night she'd been a mess. She couldn't sleep, and whenever she closed her eyes for any amount of time, she kept seeing Nick. She stood and walked over to her window, looking up at the sky. So much had changed in such a short time. She hadn't been the same person she was when Nick walked into her office a few short weeks ago. Sighing heavily she walked back over to her chair and sat, looking through some catalogues.

"Hey girl! We're here to visit!" Came Erin's voice as her and Gabs walked through the door.

Keyana dropped her head forward on her desk.

"Oh geeze, don't look so happy to see us!" Gabs rolled her eyes.

"Sorry. I had a rough night." She mumbled, her head still down.

"Hard time sleeping?" Erin asked.

"Amongst other things."

"Like?" Gabs probed.

"Nevermind, not important." Keyana sighed, lifting her head.

"You look like hell honey." Erin commented.

"Thanks, I try." Keyana replied blandly.

"Wanna talk about it?" Gabs offered, hopping up on the desk.

"Nothing to talk about. Look, guys I'd love to chat, but I have to get ready for my appointments. I'm behind enough as it is today."

"Oh did Shane keep you up last night?" Erin smirked.

Keyana's gaze flew to her. "Did you talk to Shane?" She said harshly.

Erin's eyebrows flew up. "No, I was just kidding. Why did you two finally..."

"No, that's just it. I-I couldn't." She hated saying it. Just one more reminder of the turn their relationship had taken.  "You couldn't!

"What do you mean you couldn't?" Gabs questioned.

"I couldn't like, I couldn't!" Keyana snapped.

Erin and Gabs looked at her startled just as there was a knock at her door.  Erin walked over and opened it. A delivery man came in.

"I'm looking for a Miss...Keyana Johnson?"

"That would be me. Can I help you?" Keyana asked, standing and walking over to the man.

"I have a delivery for you Miss. Johnson." The man pulled a large bouquet of red roses out and handed them to her. "Now if you'll just sign here please."

Keyana stared at the bouquet, quickly putting it down on the desk and signing the paper.

"Thank you ma'am." The man left.

"Wow! Those are beautiful!" Gabs sighed.

"Who're they from?" Erin asked.

"I'm guessing Shane." Keyana smiled. Maybe he wasn't mad about the other night. She reached into the bouquet and grabbed the white envelope, opening it and pulling the card out. All color drained from her face as she read the words.

For more steamy encounters
You forgot the flowers last night
All bubble baths deserve red roses

Love,
Nick

Her hand came up to her mouth as her gaze fell upon  the roses.

"So, who're they from? Shane?" Gabs exclaimed excitedly.

Keyana said nothing, Erin walked over and swiped the card out of her hands. "For more steamy encounters. You forgot the flowers last night, all bubble baths deserve red roses love Nick. Wow!" Erin and Gabs both turned to look at Keyana just as there was another knock at the door and Shane walked in.

"Hi Keyana."

"S-Shane! What are you doing here?" Keyana stammered.

"I wanted to talk to you. Where'd you get the flowers?" He asked.

"Uhh, Gabs and Erin brought them over." She lied, quickly grabbing the card out of Erin's hand.

"That was sweet of you two." Shane smiled.

Keyana threw them a desperate look.

"Yeah, we figured we'd send her some flowers. She hasn't been herself lately." Erin announced, coming over to throw her arm around Keyana.

"So what better way to cheer her up than with flowers." Gabs finished, coming to stand next to the two, giving Keyana fierce gaze.
Keyana swallowed hard and smiled shakily at Shane.

"You've got great friends Keyana. I just wanted to stop by and apologize for the other night. I was upset. I didn't mean to pressure you. I'll give you a call later okay, so we can talk."

Keyana nodded and smiled. "Ok I'll talk with you soon then."

"Ok, later. Bye Erin, Gabs." Shane grinned, coming over to kiss Keyana quickly then leave.

Gabs and Erin turned to look at her.

"Ok Keyana, I've had enough of the shit. What in the hell is going on with you and Nick?" Gabs demanded.

Keyana sighed. "Please, there's nothing. I've got it under control."

"Then what'd he mean by more steamy encounters?" Erin countered.

"I don't know. Look I have to get to work. I'll talk to you two later." Keyana walked back over to her desk, looking down at the catalogue.

"That's it? After we just saved your ass that's all you're gonna say?" Erin demanded.

"Yes cause there's nothing else to be said. Please you guys, I know what I'm doing." Keyana replied, looking at them.

Gabs sighed. "Come on Erin, let's go. I do hope you know what you're doing. I don't want you to get hurt, but  from the looks of it Keyana, you're on your way there." Gabs announced softly, before her and Erin walked out the door.

Keyana rubbed at her forehead. She knew what she was doing didn't she? **********************************************************************
