Chapter 33

Groaning, she slowly opened her eyes, stretching lazily. She felt rested and refreshed, though she wasn't really looking forward to spending another day trapped in this mansion, she knew she had to make the best of it though.

Throwing the covers off, she slipped out of the bed and stood, crying out when her feet hit the ice cold hardwood floor.

"Shit that's cold!" She moaned, reaching over and grabbing her socks out of her bag and quickly slipping them on before making her way out her room. Walking over, she knocked lightly on Nick's door to check on him. "Nick?" She called softly, opening the door. "Nick?"  Looking in, she expected to see him sprawled over the bed, but to her surprise, he wasn't there. Looking around quickly to make sure he wasn't in the bathroom, she backed out, shutting the door. Turning she made her way down the stairs quickly, slowing when she saw Nick sitting on the couch, looking out the window.

She made her way down the rest of the stairs watching him intently, he looked to be deep in thought. Walking over to the bags they had set out, she grabbed a bag of popcorn and sat in the chair across from him, he didn't even realize she was there.   "Good morning." She called.

Nick jumped, obviously startled. "Nyla, morning." He smiled, a bit distracted.

"How do you feel? You look a lot better, got some color back." She announced, opening the bag and getting a handful of popcorn.

"Yeah, I feel a lot better, a little stuffy still, but not too bad." He smiled. "I heard the latest weather report, it's supposed to be really bad tonight and that the storm is getting worse. They don't know when it's gonna end."

"Figures."

"It could be worse."

Nyla looked at him blandly and he blushed.

"Ok, maybe not. But anyway, how bout you? How do you feel? Sleep well?"

"Eh, for the most part. I'm just tired of being here ya know? Not knowing what's gonna happen, not having anything to do. I'm frustrated and I'm just..." she threw her hands up, setting the bag down, her appetite suddenly gone.

"Hey hey, come on now." Nick announced, standing and walking over to sit next to her. "This is not the Nyla I know."

"I can't help it Nick, it's been four days and we can't do anything, we can barely get a hold of our loved ones we have to ration food, we sit around and twiddle our thumbs to pass time and I'm just tired of it!" She cried out, her eyes welling up in frustration.

"Now calm down, relax." He whispered, hesitantly wrapping an arm around her, he knew her frustration, it was his as well. "We're gonna get out of this Nyla, we will. Sure, it's an unexpected glitch..."

She looked over at him and sniffled.

He winked and went on, "A glitch, but we're a team, we'll get through it and we'll get you to your Grandmother, I promise Ny, Ok?"

He called her Ny, he never called her that anymore.

"Ok?" He whispered again, reaching up to wipe the tear that had now made it's way down her cheek, away.

She shivered against his touch and nodded, "Ok." Looking up at him, at the determination in his eyes and she knew they would.
