Chapter 5

"Bye everyone! See ya next week!" Nyla waved at everyone and head over to Scott's car, getting in and buckling up.

"Wow, you always win Nyla, what's your secret?" Scott grinned.

"Pure dumb luck." She laughed.

"Uh huh, sure. Like I believe that."

She grinned, reaching out to turn the radio on.

"So where to? Back to your place?" Scott asked.

"Yeah sure."

They arrived at her apartment a short time later. Walking in, Scott whirled her around, pulling her into his arms and kissing her deeply. Somehow they made their way over to the couch, tumbling back, arms and legs tangled. They couldn't seem to get enough of each other. Clothes were starting to come off when the phone rang.

"Ignore it." Scott murmured against her lips.

He kissed her again, moving his hands up her body, pushing her shirt up. The phone rang again, he groaned.

"I have to get it, just...hold that thought." She whispered, pulling away and reaching over to grab the phone. "Hello?"

"Hi honey!"

She sighed. "Hi Mom."

Scott rolled his eyes, slumping back on the couch heavily. Nyla shot him a sympathetic look.

"How are things? How have you been lately?"

"I'm fine Mom, things are fine, as usual. Was there something you needed?"

"No no, just calling to catch up a bit. How are things going with you and Scott?"

"They're great, better than ever. As a matter of fact, he's over now. Can I call you later and..."

"Oh he's there?!"

"Yes Mom..."

"Tell him I said hello!"

She sighed, pulling the phone away. "Mom says Hi."

"Hi Mrs. Rogers!" He said loudly.

"He's really a nice guy honey. You know how to pick em, first Nick then Scott. Have you heard from Nick lately?"

She always did that, no matter what, always found some way to bring Nick into the conversation. Needless to say, her mother hadn't been happy when she told her that her and Nick had broken up, her Mom was head over heels for Nick, which startled Nyla cause generally her Mom never took to any of her boyfriends, even now with Scott. She always said she liked him, but it wasn't the same.

"Moooom!"

"Ok, I know I know. You can tell me later."

"MOM!"

"Sorry!"

"Look Mom, I gotta let you go. I'll call you tomorrow."

"Well alright. Say good night to Scott for me. Bye honey."

"Bye Mom." She hung up, sighing as Scott slipped his arms around her waist, starting to pull her back down.

"You're all tense now baby."

"I know, sorry."

"Let me help you relax." He turned her in his arms, kissing her suddenly.

She tried to get into it, closing her eyes; she gave herself up to the kiss. Flashes of blue eyes and blonde hair swirled around in her head suddenly and she pulled away abruptly.

"Nyla? What's wrong sweetie?"

"Nothing, sorry." She leaned in, kissing him again, wrapping her arms around his neck. She could do this, she could. Slowly she closed her eyes again, trying hard to focus on Scott.

That smile, those lips. She couldn't see anything else, feel anything else. Again she pulled away, groaning, sitting up.

"Sorry, I'm sorry Scott."

"What's the matter?" He asked, sitting up.

"I just...can't now. Mom, she just..."

Scott sighed. "Remind me to thank your Mom next time we see her."

  "I'm so sorry honey."

"It's ok."

"Look, I'm really tired, can I call you tomorrow?"

"Yeah, sure. Get some rest, talk to ya tomorrow." He leaned in, kissing her gently before standing and walking out.

Once she heard the door shut, she flopped back on the couch. Damnit all, that hadn't happened in a long time, what was so different now? After all this time he still invaded her thoughts, her mind. She thought she'd gotten over all of it, that she'd learned to block him out, but apparently she hadn't. All it'd taken was her Mom mentioning his name and suddenly there he was.

Even though he wasn't there and they weren't together, he'd left his mark on her forever somehow.  And no matter where she ran, or what she did, or how hard she tried to get away, he was always there.
