Let's take a look at two mystery systems and see if you can draw a comparison!!
The Temple of Isis
The Temple of Isis is one of the first a Light Traveler will find in the search for inner truth. A powerful and focused desire to bring love into this world opens the portal. You must connect your heart to the challenge of bringing motherly love into the physical world. Feminine power if focused on the energy of giving from the self to create divine life. That's the key. The outer temples or marble are now gone, but they aren't necessary. The inner Temple of  Light remains. When the initiate reaches the Temple of Isis, he will see "a light and other unutterable things conducing to salvation".
Freemasonry
One of the oldest and still practiced forms of a mystery school is Freemasonry. Freemasonry has survived through years of persecution and ridicule. The actual founding of masonry is a topic that can and has been debated upon for years. Some say that masonry started when Adam put on the first apron. Some say that Moses and other Old and New Testament Biblical characters were members of the craft. A few scholars believe that the Egyptian priests that fled Egypt during the decline of the Egyptian empire are the first masons. These scholars believe that the high priests fled Egypt and lived in the wilderness and continued to practice their ceremonies. These high priests were considered also to be the original Druids. There has been strong evidence linking the Freemasons of today to the Knights Templars. Knight Templar grave sights have been found with certain Masonic emblems etched in stone. The Rosslyn Chapel has very heavy Masonic overtones as well.
Scholars believe that the Essenes and or Nasoreans were a secret society with great influence. They are supposedly the writers of many of the Lost Books of the Bible including the Dead Sea Scrolls. Jesus Christ was believed to be a member of these sects. His teachings of morality and truth are in line with the teachings of masonry. Not to say that masonry is a religion, but the values expressed in religion and masonry compliment and reinforce each other. The teachings of all major religions and Freemasonry focus on morality and have dual meanings. One can take the teachings literally or dig deeper into the teachings. The literal teachings are enough for some people. The deeper meaning brings about a spiritual awareness that can be a revelation for some. We all should strive for that deeper meaning. Only those worthy and well qualified, of pure heart and mind, can fully understand and achieve the deeper meaning. To get that deeper meaning, a preacher, teacher, or in the case of masonry, a worshipful master is there to help us along. Understand that the master/matron is not God, Jesus, or Allah his or herself but, is  just as a church official, he/she is there to guide us along. The master or matron should be on a spiritual level that is close to Godliness.
