Quirky Vancouver ETB Action Photos |

Evolution if not revolution: The first "tranche" of our E40s had a cleaner bike rack design (see bus in rear). All were replaced with the foreground type. It was claimed that the headlights were being obscured. But I think it was because they didn't have advert boards. |
Pretty good photo location: The bus is straddling the CP tracks. When trains were more active in Brill days, some wag would joke "Everyone step to the back!" when a bus halted over a level crossing. Note the advertising board on 2282's "improved" bike rack. |

Dig that Vancouver background: This is where tourists get their first look at the dynamic skyline of downtown Vancouver. In bygone days the view was marred by a big Mazda neon sign just to left of frame, and a Chevrolet sign on top of the Hotel Austin. |
In Vancouver we call this "mushy rain": I almost got frostbite waiting for 2198 to come into frame under the new Hemlock S/B wires. Not really. But I do know what FB feels like, from when I resided in Saskatchewan (pronounced Scratch Snatch You On). |

Found On Road Dead: 2870 again, featured in a rare black-and-white in-action shot. Something's wrong; her driver has abandoned her at 5th and Granville. |
Dewired: The driver of 2905 disregarded the "tempo" change-of-lane notice at Davie and Howe, where the wires were tied away from a construction crane. |

"Buses Changing to Curb Lane": Autoists have been ignoring that warning (posted on a yellow diamond behind the camera) ever since Brill days when the curbside wires had more TB traffic. Due to SkyTrain construction, TB's have been rerouted to those wires and the warning is again appropriate. 2871 eases into the notoriously unreliable switch where the Hemlock Street wire merges in. |
Ka-Ching! : That memorable sound is made by a "Selectric" switch when a manoeuvering TB trips the solenoids, as 2946 has done at Granville Bridge West Cloverleaf. If the bus isn't turning, you hear a softer double-click sound as the shoes slide past the contact strips in front of the switch, followed by the rattling of the shoes negotiating the switch itself. |
