WELCOME to simpler implementation.
(a) For whom is it simpler?

The beneficiary is the computer professional who implements VUTAM; for the end user, it matters nothing!

(b) What prevents this simpler implementation, right now?

It may be known by now, that the Unicode Consortium has not allotted individual code for every Tamil letter; codes are allotted only to Tamil characters and vowel marks, and that too, with a twist.

The twist:

ALL the vowel marks are required to be placed ONLY to the right of the concerned consonant, as against the practice of writing these to the left or right or surrounding it. Obviously, this is not acceptable to ANY!! This is attempted to be set right by a special display driver called Uniscribe; two negatives to achieve a positive? A funny stategy indeed.

My efforts with the Unicode Consortium to resolve this situation are found in:

This was also the time, when, only the English Transliteration Keyboard Drivers for Tamil were available for free. Type_As_You_Write keyboard drivers were not availble, till the NHM Writer came into being. In NHM writer, it is possible to change almost anything. Taking advantage of it, a small file was created for use with the NHM Writer, which enables one, to type Tamil the VUTAM way! In a simplified implementation of VUTAM, this file will be smaller!
