WELCOME TO DARKSYDE

Velyr history has become interwoven with human history.  The first humans to meet velyr were obviously quite impressed, judging by the fact that the stories have been circulating for nearly 2000 years now.  Practically every human society has its legends of blood-drinking demons.  Most human cultures also have legends of helpful beings far in advance of humankind, who are willing (generally for a price) to share their knowledge and powers with us.

Velyr are both, and neither.

It is fascinating to study human myth and legend with an eye toward velyr contact.  Vampires, werewolves, elves, demons, and minor deities take on entirely new meanings in this light.  When first stranded on Earth, velyr had little understanding of human culture.  They stood out dramatically as "not from around here."

Modern velyr have blended into human society for the most part.  Rogue velyr still prowl the nights, preying upon human and animal alike, but most velyr prefer to mingle with their fellow earthlings.  Your favorite musicians or artists are likely velyr, for they love being the center of attention.  Likewise, you might run into velyr at your favorite nightclub or concert.

You're not likely to hear new stories of mysterious night-dwellers: humans have lost much of their fear of the night.  However, a new myth has begun to appear: the tales of extraterrestrial contact.  Some of these sightings are legitimate velyr contacts.  However, there are many still unexplained.  When asked about certain of these tales, velyr have been known to pale visibly.  They refuse to comment upon the supposed "grays" or their alleged human abductions.

Yeah, I took a little sip out of that cow - how was I to know the blasted human would be strolling through the pasture at that hour of the night?
