Full of sorrow and rage about his sister's death, Joukahainen took his bow and rode after Vaianmoinen, who left the village as there was nothing for him anymore. Sad maybe, for loosing his opportunity to have beautifull, young wife. He didn't know that he was hauted by Joukahainen, and was crossing a river with his horse, when he finally noticed him...too late. Joukahainen's arrow pierced deep into his chest, making him fall and be carried down the river, deadly wounded. |

The river took Vainamoinen to the sea, where he dwelled for amny days in a slow way to death. Then, one day he hit the ground and after resting a day on the cool grass, he finally raised his head to look around..and he noticed that he has came to the Northlands. The fortress of Hiisi raised upon him on the great rock, and he allready heard teh barking or Hiisi's dogs. |

No man would ever step inside those awfull gates that led to the home of feared Hiisi and his wife, the hostess of the north who has been well known as a great witch. But then Vaianmoinen saw one of the daughter's of Hiisi, bathing near him at the shoreline. And there was no finer woman that even old wisard had ever seen. The dangers and wisdom was forgotten from that sight, and Vainamoinen followed The Lady of the north to the gates of "Pohjola". |

Vainamoinen was welcomed to Pohjola, and kept there well untill he was strong enough to take care of himself. Then he finally walked to the Hostess of Pohjola and asked the price for one of her daughters. First, Louhi, the hostess of Pohjola, was not interested in such a trade, but when Vainamoinen said it could be anything, she finally made up her mind. "I Wan't Sampo, that will bring wealthyness and glory to Pohjola." and so Vainamoinen walked away, as he knew the right man to help him. |

But at the gates of Pohjola, Vainamoinen met The Lady of the North and she said this: "Why didn't you man, ask for me? Why you asked the price of me? Why you didn't ask from myself?" Vainamoinen didn't seem to understand and asked her what she wanted. And she told him to make a boat. Make a boat without touching, and without paying it with money. Deep in her thought Vainamoinen returned to Kalevala.

Back in Kalevala, Ilmarinen the smith had noticed that his golden wife was not living and fine after all. Metal was cold for him to touch and never he heard his wife laughing. |

Then Vainamoinen returned from teh North and told him about beautifull lady that he had met, and made him very interested in this kind of beauty. Vainamoinen allso told him that Louhi, the hostess of Pohjola, wanted a sampo to be made to be the price of her daughter. After hearing that, Ilmarinen took couple of men with him, and travelled to the north to see for himself what could be the worth of such a treasure. And when he saw the lady of the north, he desided to make a new forge right nex to the Pohjola's castle. And in that forge he started to make Sampo. |
