As Lemminkäinen was in his travels for two years, things in Kalevala has changed. The smith Ilmarinen got a new wife now in his home, but for that he gave sampo to Pohjola. And as Sampo was the mill of wealthyness, Pohjola's might grew and grew. And there where Pohjola became rich, Kalevala became poor.
Then after the second winter that was colder than a man can remember, Vainamoinen talked to Ilmarinen about the problem. Sampo must have been taken from Pohjola, or at least Louhi should share it with people in Kalevala. First Ilmarinen was not willing to go and ask, becouse he knew Louhi allmost as well as Vaino, and was sure that she wont give any of the treasure away. Still, his own wife was in hunger too and he knew it would continue like this forever and get even worse in time.
So they took a dosen of men with them, and made a warboat to carry them to the northlands. All men armed and Vainamoinen in lead of the group.
In the beginnign of the journey to Pohjola, it happened that at the same day was Lieto Lemminkäinen returning from his journey in his boat, and asked where that kind of group was going. They told him they were going to get sampo back from Pohjola, and ofcourse Lieto was willing ot join them. So the thee that once were enemies for the lady of the norht, Were now all in the same boat heading to fight together.
The journey took many days. And one day, the boat suddenly stopped at the middle of the sea. Vaino told Lemminkäinen to see if they were stuck on a bic rock under the water, but it wasn't a rock. It was a huge fish, a pike that was sleeping in the water, and the boat was on it's back now unable to move anywhere. Lemminkäinen tried to kill the fish with his sword, and so did Ilmarinen, but their weapons didn't bite the rocklike scales. So Vainamoinen called the highest god of the air and lightnings, to give him a flaming sword, and with that the pike was finally killed and the group got lot of fish for dinner.
When they were sitting at the campfire on a reef, Vainamoinen was sitting all alone away from the other group, looking at the head of the pike. Many little fish has came into the end of it's life by those jaws and the chin of the pike fashinated him so, that he released it from the skull and cleaned it. Then he called the daughters of Ahti, the king of the water, and one of them came to him from the sea. Vainamoinen asked to have some of her finest hair, and that he did get.
He attached each of those fine single hair into each teeth in the pike's jawbone, making himself a harp. And so he liked what he made, that he canalized allmost all his powers to the harp, making it strongly magical. And then he started to play.
