Early humans were very proficient in establishing which plants were safe and which could be used to poison foes.  Today, plants are once again serving as a "new found source" of many new drugs. In addition, the interrelationships between  humans and the other forms of life in a common environment has led to significant advances in the area of environmental toxicology.
