I remember for christmas one year me and my sister got a swing set/slide. I dont remember getting it but i do remember that nobody would teach me how to swing. They kept it at my grandparents house ..well cause they were the only ones to have a house. Anyways I remember the day I did learn I was so excited that I learned by myself and I immediately told my sister how to do it. her being the slow one took a lot longer but what can you expect from a 5 year giving instructions??
Also near about that time was halloween I was a transformer it was a ??purple?? in color and I remember my aunts or my mom line us up in my grandparents driveway area trying to take our pictures. My aunt jerry had a cat named Jacob. It was a black cat it was pretty cool too. I dont remember any specifics but I do remember him and him hiding underneath chairs alot.
Well first grade was at Lindberg Elementary in Tulsa. I had a teacher named Mrs Kopiernick or something like that she was a lady at least 50 however but was very active for her age. I suprising have alot of memories from that class. I remember the class room it was a pre-fab type. One of our home work assignments was to write the numbers 1-100 twice and most of us had it finished in the time she assigned it. I remember writing it REALLY FAST. because i didn't want to take it home. We turned the assignment into a wire-frame basket. I also remember somebody saying I was realy smart. There was a group of girls in the class room connected to ours (there was 4 total in the pre-fab) and I realy liked them, esp this one red-headed girl named Michelle. I remember a black coat thing i had (think 1950's era without the leather) anyways it was cold out one day and i had used it to kinda cover myself while sitting on the ground and she came by for a few minutes. I also remember a yellow catepillar with a purple head climby thing. It had rungs on it so you could climb on and over it. ~ kinda like that shape except about 8ft at its max. I dont remember anything else about the playground except it was behind a church I would later go to. I was picked up by my daycare.more about that in a minute. At Lindberg I remember my first major school spirit assembly. It was a clash day or something, not many first graders participated in it so oh well. The yearbook I got reminds me of it but most is faint. I drove by there in 2000 sometime and i saw that the caterpillar was still there. That was very nostaligic to see that. I dont remember where i was picked up at but I do remember who did it. It was "the house of the wee folks" van. I do remeber it didnt have any seats except for the front two. so about 5-9 kids piled in the back. it was quite spacious, probaly not the safest but we were kids who cares about such nonsense as safety. At "house" the first thing they would make us do is take a nap. I have never been much of a nap-er so i hated this of course. and almost never took a nap. Id much rather play with the toys or go out side and play on the swings (this is where i developed my fasicnation for swings) or play ground or just run around like a stupid retard that I was. This next part is kinda weird but oh well i was 6 who cares about a 6 year old being wierd. I dont know why but for some reason I took a liking to this LITTLE girl (age 2-3) named Darcy. My aunt gave me and my sister talking bears shortly after and i named mine after her. I only remember that she had long (for her age it was long) curly hair. I remember I would push her on the swing and stuff. I guess I was trying to be her older brother or something.
After we lived in Tulsa for a few years my parents decided to move to some speck a map called Inola. I guess it was closer to were my step dad (kevin). We live in a trailer in a row of about 8 others. there was a major highway about 200 feet in front of us blocked by a large field and nothing that I could ever see behind us. I dont remember anything about the trailer, my room or anything else about the inside except I remember my mom used to stay up late and watch a tv show called S.W.A.T. and wait for my stepdad to come home. Outside however that was were the fun was at!! On one side we had a neighbor kid who was about my age and me and him always hung out and did stuff and acted a fool like most kids 6-7. This was during the summer so school wasnt in session or anything. Our other neighbor was a girl about my Age..SCORE!!! anyways I remember everytime my mom would go visit her mom me and my sis would tag along. My sis would play with her toys that was in PILES, literally (it kinda had an odor to the whole place as well) and me and her would go in her bathroom and french kiss. EVERYTIME i came over that happened. I was the man (what happened to me I dont know) anyways one day she said her and her mom was moving to france and i guess they did. The following week we had a tornado come by our way. Our trailer was rocking, literally rocking side to side. Me and my mom and my sis was huddled in the bathroom it was realy crazy. afterwards we found our neighbor (girl) trailer all damaged and stuff the front door was hanging on one hinge and some other stuff. Well I guess after that my parents said no more trailers for us. So was moved back to Tulsa YEAH. we moved to some place off of Darlington. theres a post office nearby. It a red house. i had a REAL small bedroom. to give you an example I had a hot wheels race set. It had a launcher 3 loops in parrell and then a lead off track. I could not play this in my room. I had room for a bed and maybe a dresser, i doubt it though. a few things i remember from this brief residence. My parents went bowling at Rose Bowl alot while we lived there. my step dad and my sis and I would watch WCW wrestling on tv ALOT. it was like our bonding event. I also remember getting a tic-tac-toss bean bag game. Our backyard was huge, for a suburban area, in it we had a storm cellar. It was always damp and dirty down there so we didnt ever go down there. Me and my Sister would ride our bikes on top of it then jump off of it. In the back part of it my parents would grown Corn (why?) and tomatoes. I also discoverd about the seeding process of trees. We had one of those tree that lets go of Thousands of helicopter seeds. They were fun to play with. A few houses down was a kid near my age. We'd hang out alot and play games and stuff. One time we got adventerous and went down to this pond area. We was gone maybe 5 or 6 hours. I remember running down the street to get home once i found out what time it was. I got grounded for along time and I never got to hang out with him again.
I started 2nd grade at Mckinley Elementary. There we had Lockers. That was the coolest thing ever, although i never used mine. I dont remember the teacher i had but i do remember if you were the good student of the week you got the "scotty dog" and black wooden dog shaped thing with a tartan print scarf. It sat on your desk cause you were Special! I was only there for maybe a month. I remember my aunts went to an Air Supply concert and i was realy jealous. One of the last things i remember about it is hanging out on the jungle jim area talking with a friend of mine about me moving...
To Broken Arrow, 21425 E32 Place that is. my parents got the house cheap (45K) from a work buddy. I remember when we first got the house me and my mom was the first to stay the night there. I immediatly claimed my room. This was in 1986. my first year there is a little fuzzy. But at school I was in second grade..still and i had a teacher named Ms Gorbet. She was mean. I remember you got these points or something and you could pick a prize with your points. well for some reason i didnt get any points and i asked her if i could just look and see what i was missing and she said NO!! Once again I was at the jungle gym area talking to people and apparently I was being held back (flunked as I called it.) anyways many of my class mates thought that this one hideous chick named marilyn was way more stupid-er than me and deserved to be held back more than I did. At this same time my sister got held back in kindergarten. She had trouble drinking her milk and taking naps. hahaha..just kidding I always joke about that to her.
After school, my mom seemed to like our school Arrowhead (airhead) Elementary. They had many events like the school carnival, and dinners that served bean chowder(its like chili but different). My second year at 2nd grade i had a teacher named Ms Carter. she was a young, but "healthy" woman. and she would sit in this big green chair as we would crowd around her and sit on the chair and near it and read us stories. I remember her reading "the lion, the witch and the wardbrobe" by C.S.Lewis. apparently she was realy religious. but she was smart about and and when somebody would guess what a certain alliteration meant she would put a finger to her mouth and say "shhh, figure it out for yourself" I dont remember many people in the class except for Bo Dello Iacono. I mainly remember him because he was gone for about 2 weeks while his step-dad was adopting him (dello Iacono was his adoptive name) dont remember his orignal. This event would plague me for a long time and make me wonder why my step dad. Kevin wouldnt adopt me. It was apparent my dad (David) and my mom (Sandy) were not going to get back together so why not adopt us? I have my own beliefs about this. but oh well. more to come about that later..in about 4 years time! for christmas break we put all our books in paper bags and set them on the long window sill. Spring time there was a tornado about 3 blocks away and all the teachers were all freaked out by it. I also remember these "tshirts" we made they were "Guess'" and you lifted up the "pocket area" and it would reveal the answer to the question on the front of the T.one of my least and most favorite things was bringing my lunch to school which i did (because my parents couldnt afford school lunches everyday for and my sis) til i was in the 11th grade. It was my least because I often felt like I was the poor kid, although the food sucked they often had better meals that i got. my daily pb&j sandwich chips a drink and a dessert. everyday except for fridays, my mom would give us money then. It was my favorite because we would get lunch boxes and from the cafeteria to Ms carters class was a long way (realy maybe a hundred feet or so) so rather than walking all the way down the end we would get about about half way and then hurl our empty lunch boxes down the hall. that was REALY FUN. some of the teachers didnt like when we did that because they would make a loud noise when they hit the ground. oh well. the play ground was huge. it was probaly at least 2 football fields in width and at least 200 yards in length. on one side was swings, (Tim Cossey's "James Bond, Jr" imitation) monkey bars (chicken fights) and tetor-totters. the other side had the basket ball court, tetherball, track, playground set. Now the only thing that sucked about recess was......on certain days you had to walk or run a certain number of laps before you got to play. it was maybe about 3/4 mile in length. That was realy dumb and made me mad ALOT.
Living in Oklahoma meant a "special day" where we kinda had the day off so to speak. It was kinda celebrating statehood I suppose but anways we would all get a sacked luch..for free. and we would go out into the playground area and "claim" our area which realy wasnt anything because everybody would want to sit by there friends. SO there would be HERDS of people in spots and LOTS of empty play groud area. kinda voided the purpose i suppose. Oh well.
Also at Arrow"AIR"head. btw somepeople had redone our school song. it was orginally " arrow head arrowhead arrowhead elemetnary home of the brave.were so brave that we shout out loud (were number one_
guys:(our schools the best) girls: and we passed the test Guys: our schools the best Girls:and by now you guessed TOGETHER arrowhead school is cool" to..."air head ..home of the losers..airhead elementary sucks" leaveing out the parts that were duplicate.
ALso on the playgroud  right behind the Kickball field there used to be playground set. but they tore it down put some prefabs there and made a bigger one inside the track.
I dont remember much classes but heres what i do remember: 2nd Grade Ms Gorbet (she was mean. we had this one thing where if you got enough "points" you got a prize. Well i didnt have ANY points so I couldnt get anything and i asked her if i could have a look and she said NO"..2nd Grade Miss Carter...3rd Grade??.. 4th Grade.. Mrs Shamburger.. 5th Grade.. Mrs Jackson "beat you with a wet noodle"
We had to take PE, Music and Art on alternating days.
Mrs Mitchell was the PE teacher. in PE we got to do fun things like play crabball, use the Parachute, and play kickball
Mrs Allen was the Art teacher. her class was in a prefab (as was music) and we all the tables were aranged like a giant U. Rice pictures was a yearly thing for her. dont ask
of all this I HATED music the most because we had to sing some of the dumbest songs ever but we got to play with ghetto instruments so that was kinda cool. There was risers in the music room. There isnt much i remeber about this time about school
In my neighborhood we lived on a cul-de-sac.with us being the furthest in on the left. outside of the "sac" area lived Stephen and Rachel Caldwell. They were a hispanic couple and were very much in love with each other. I wished I could have talked with them more, but i was a kid and was only concerned with playing with other kids. Oh well. They didn't have a lot of money (they borrowed  our cleaning items and fished
OFTEN for  meals) They had 2 boys and 1 girl. I realy enjoyed spending time with them And I remember when micro machines came out they wanted to trade me for this one. The 2 boys were OBSESSED with '57 chevy's. They traded one of mine (a car i thought was old and ugly) for a Lamborghini Countach. Great deal if you ask me. They moved about about a few months after they moved in. They moved to someplace in further North in Tulsa. I got to spend one night with them their and it was fun, but somehow things were differnt. I guess cause we knew us being kids wouldnt get to hang out that much anymore. Most poor people i have actualy known let their situation get them down. This family was so full of love (VERY HARDCORE Christians as well) and they lived their life more fuller than most people i know with much more. They were always nice, happy and willing to share anything they have. Great people, wished I could have stayed in contact with them.
The house they lived in would be vacant for a VERY long time (8years). It became our second yard and we would often play in the drive, just the fence in the backyard to get to the other side of the street and ride our bikes through their yard. A black family would move in, but they were not very sociable at all. Not mean just not talkative.
Next door to them was a family of "white trash" I dont say this to be mean. but they were. Jeff foxworthy spells this family almost to a T. They had run down cars in their backyard and never took care of their yard. Their house was NEVER clean either. The boys (one my age was named Terry George) was alright to talk to and stuff..(cause I couldnt go anywhere else..that comes up in a few) but I avoided his mom with a vengenace, she was ugly mean and borderline huge. Very scary for a 9year old. They eventualy moved away and NO i never did care where they went either.
My next door neighbors Bob and ... were retired and were always away traveling in their winnebago somewhere. So when they were gone (summer time) I would take my hot wheels set (mentioned earlier) and play with it in their driveway. In my "pretend" world. There was an amusement park ALWAYS. everytim I would play with in their drive way. I liked rides at a very early age. Roller Coasters, took some time for me to develop them ..thats later. Kevin was always doing something in the yard mowing, weedeating, planting. something so that mad our own driveway dangerous thats why i would go next door to theirs.
When I wasnt doing that I would play barbie dolls with my sister. Of course when i played my couple was ALWAYS having sex (ask my sister) Yes even at 9 or 10 i was a pre-vert. Sorry..my bad..And I would always have the cool barbie car. A Ferrari Testarossa. it was with white with tan "leather*plastic*" seats. the ken was kinda hard to put in there. We would also use cassette tape cases as walls for their houses. Those same cassettes would later become the crash victims of my crazy hot wheels games later.
