Racing for Simtek F1
After an eventful 1994, Jos was dropped from Benetton and 'loaned' to the British Simtek team to gain experience. The experienced Johnny Herbert replaced Jos at Benetton where Schumacher remained.
The Simtek car was relatively uncompetitative but Jos performed well to qualify 14th at Buenos Aires, Argentina (the best qualitifying position for Simtek to date) and at the same race, he was running an impressive 6th position only to have his glory taken away by mechanical failure. Throughout his stint with Simtek however, he totally overshadowed his Italian team mate, Domenico Schiaterella.
Sadly the Simtek team folded after the 1995 Monaco Grand Prix because of financial difficulties, mainly due to lack of sponsorship.
Without a seat in F1 racing, Jos spent the rest of the season testing with Benetton and Ligier teams, providing him with valuable experience.
