1997 F1 Season

High expectations

Racing for Tyrrell

The inconsistent partnership with teams continued and under new management, Arrows did not hold on to Verstappen. His only option was to join the declining Tyrrell team. Tyrrell were optimistic for 1997 with a seemingly strong driver line-up and a unique car design. However, The Tyrrell-Ford could not match many of the other team cars and Jos's team mate,
Mika Salo was to score the teams only points of the season - one fifth place. Jos received valuable experience whilst with Tyrrell and despite the realisation of Tyrrell's near collapse, the team remainded in good spirits under the charasmatic leadership of Ken Tyrrell who sadly died in 2001. Jos was to earn great respect from Ken Tyrrell whilst with his team and also made good friends with his team mate, Salo.
