Test driver for Honda
Not retained at Stewart, Jos was assigned by the new Honda team which was designing its own F1 car for the next season. All seemed to be going very well as Jos was the team's primary test driver, setting impressive lap times and working along side renowned car designer Harvey Postlethwaite. Seemingly on an upward turn for Jos's career, bad luck again set in as Harvey Postlethwaite sadly died of a heart attack the same year and Honda axed its project to focus on engine development only.
Ouf of a job in F1 again, Jos performed a one-off test for the Jordan team, creating the rumour he was a potential replacement for the retiring Damon Hill.
As a well-known test driver for 1999, would any teams take note of Jos's performances for a race deal for 2000?
