The end of an era in F1

Leaving Minardi, Jos hoped for a more successful contract with Jordan. However, despite a seat-fitting and one-off test drive, Jos was never selected and rookie Georgio Pantano was hired instead due to significant sponsorship backing.

Sitting out season 2004, Jos was again unable to make a comeback and was also unable to secure a deal for 2005.

Ending ten years in Formula One -from testing to race driving- Jos then turned his sights to the USA and hoped to secure a deal with a team in the
Champ Car series (the American version of F1).

In mid-2005, Jos performed a test for the HMV team in Champ Cars, registering an impressive set of lap times but was again ignored, and heavily sponsored drivers took the lime-light.

F1 carrer summary:
Jos brought us the occasional burst of speed, aggressive and fearless racing and remarkable overtaking, but was rarely in the possession of a consistently quick car. In formula one, Jos is remembered for his memorable pit-lane fire and podium-finish of 1994, his determination with Arrows in 1996 which seemed so promising. Thereafter, Jos's F1 career took a downward turn, racing below the mid-field and earning the nickname, 'Vercrashen'. On an upward turn, Jos made a popular come-back with bright-orange Arrows in 2000, turning heads on occasion and approaching his F1-end on a pleasing note. Not the most internationally-famous F1 racer of all-time, Jos remains well known and respected in the racing world and his name -to many- is that of a veteran racer. Although the end of an era in F1, 'Jos the Boss' fans can relax as Verstappen makes a return to racing in the new and innovative A1 Grand Prix championship.
