COMMUNITY SERVICE
2006-2007
POST CHAIRMAN:  GARY GRANT
AUXILIARY CHAIRMAN:
GABRIELE HAMMON
The Goal for Community Service is:  To cooperate with other organizations and groups, by addressing the needs in our communities as well as to provide services to those in need.
It is important for you to turn in your community service hours report to your chairman on a regular basis.  It is important so the proper hours for the post and auxiliary can be reported to the department.  All reports are due by the last day of each month.  You can email your information to the Post or Auxiliary chairman, email link above.

MARCH 2009

Thank you to everyone who is turning in their monthly community service information.  I know that there are more of you doing great work in the community but are not reporting it.l

Here is how you can report it:  all you need to do is put the plae that you volunteered at, the hours volunteered, the miles you drove, on a piece of paper and bring it to the Post home and put it in the Auxiliary President mailbox.  You can also call, mail or email the information to me.  We do so much, let's get it counted for us!

FEBUARY 2009

All members, please remember to turn in your community service hours.  I have talked to many of you at different events and have found you volunteer at church, at food banks, etc. but do not report your great work.  You could call or email me your name, place you volunteer, hours, mileage and money spent.  Believe it or not, these things are really important.

JANUARY 2009

Remember to turn in all your community service reports.  If you are not sure of what counts, contact me, please!  I am talking to many of you who volunteer at churcn, food banks and so who don't realize that what they do is community service.  Let me know your name, the place you volunteer, your hours, mileage and "out of pocket" money you spend.  It all counts!!

NOVEMBER 2008

Our Toothbrush Drive for the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project has been a great success.  I really want to thank the people at the Rec. Park for their donation of 212 toothbrushes.  Our goals was to collect 100 and we reached a total of 353.  Out thanks to everyone who made us look so good.

If you read your newsletter you know I am looking for members to share their personal military story, both those who served overseas and those on the home front.  Contact me and I will get you the forms to complete and what information I am lookng forward to seeing.  This project is a great way to make sure the stories of our veterans and their support groups are not forgotten.

OCTOBER 2008

Landstuhl Hospital Care Project is asking for a fonation of 500 individually wrapped toothbrushes.  Out Post and Auxiliary should be able to collect at least 100 of them.  If you wish to help, bring your donations to the Post and let someone there know they are for Landstuhl.

SEPTEMBER 2008

I am working on a Post 969 Veteran's History.  Members are invited to share your memories of your military service.  This includes those who served on the home frontlines in support of the war efforts, as well.  This would be a fabulous contribution to our Post so, please, contact me by phone 253-517-7678 or by e-mail at commander-president@comcast.net and I will get you started.  No one's story should be forgotten, large or small.

AUGUST 2008

We finished June with 65 ladies reporting, 1061 hours and $1629.93.  Keep up the great work and report your hours by the last day of each month.  Thank you to Melba Hutton and Mary Irving for donating material for the "Medicine Bag" project.  They provided enough for at least 20 more bags.  Now we just need the time and the workers to cut and sew them up.

JULY 2008

We will continue to collect the Box-Tops for Education for McKinley Elementary School.  There is a special box for them to the display case at the Post Home.

We are currently planning a "medicine bag" service project.  These bags are used by our wounded service members to carry their medicine while being transported from hospital to hospital.  We are looking for donations of 100% cotton material.  About 1 yard is needed for each bag.  We are looking to start making some of the bags on July 14th at the Post Home.  For more information call me of Barb Grant.  We already have some generous donations to begin.  If you wish to work on thse on your own at home, we will have copies of the instructions.  These need to be followed exactly as the military requests.  See you there.
