| Step One The Exchange of Coats 1 Samuel 18:1-14 |
| To begin the covenant the two men would exchange their coats or robes. Back in Old Testament times men were identified by the coat or robe that they wore. When men entered into Covenant and traded coats it meant that they were exchanging identities. When each wore the other's coat people would know that a Covenant relationship had been established between the two men. It also meant that each man was giving his "all" to the other man, even his life, if it came to that. |
| IN THE NEW COVENANT: When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior we are really acknowldging Him as the sacrifice that established the New Covenant we have with God the Father. We enter into the Covenant by accepting Him as Savior. |
| How do we trade coats with Jesus? We do it by giving Him our robe of self-righteousness, which appears filthy in the sight of a pure and holy God, and in exchange He gives us His Robe of Righteousness and garment of Salvation. One size fits all! Pretty good exchange, don't you think? |
