The purchasers were Dr. Farquhar McCrae (surgeon), Rev. Joseph Docker (squatter who had 50 acres and created a model village (Village of Clifton) set out as 365 lots on a grid plan designed by Charles Laing. ), W H Yaldwyn (squatter, banker who sold it to William Meek in 1840), Henry Gordon Brock (who sold it to overlander John Gardiner), and John McNall (Melbourne’s first butcher). From Website, a possible identification - John Macredie was born 1818, one of six cousins and near neighbours of the Cuninghames in Ayrshire. Son of Robert Macredie of Pierstoun House, Ayrshire, a former Captain in the East India Company, and his wife Elizabeth Cuninghame, he arrived in Melbourne with his brother, Robert, in 1840. He must have recovered from his illness for, following a sojourn in Scotland, he owned a plantation in the West Indies with his brother, Thomas, then, after a period in Madras returned to Melbourne in 1853 where he worked with his brother, William, a partner in the firm of Hastings, Cunningham and Macredie. From 1873–1883 John and Thomas lived at Piangil station on the Murray. He was still alive in 1891 when he attended William's funeral.
