Rats can basically eat just about anything that you can, they love fruit and veggies, cooked meat, fish, chicken and they actually love the chicken and meat bones, so instead of throwing them out, give then to your rats who will love them. The bones also help to keep your rats teeth warn down.

You can buy some dry mix food to give to your rats and something like Peter's Nibble and Gnaw is great for your rats, but its also easy to make up your own dry food mix if you prefer to.

Include in your dry mix -
Rolled Oats, Bran, Sunflower Seeds, Lentals, Soup Mix, Barley, Healthy Breakfast Cereal, Dry Fruit, Walnuts, Small Dry Dog Biscuits, Museli, Pasta.

You can also buy Rat Cubes (GR2 / Lab Blocks) which have most of what your rats need in its diet, but its better not to give just these to your rat every day, as just like people rats need a varied diet thats interesting.

Your rat will love fresh Fruit and Vegetables and also Soy Milk.

You can give your rats Sweet Biscuits, Sugary Cereal and Small Pet Chocolate Drops as small treats or on a special occasion.

DO NOT give your rats the following...
Cows Milk, Human Chocolate, Cheese, Potato Skins, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Gassy Foods or Fizzy Drink and no spoiled food. ( Rats can not burp or vomit )

NEVER give Male Rats, Oranges, Orange Juice, Pepper or Nutmeg as these contain a natural chemical that effects only males and can cause them to get cancer.

But basically your Rat can eat just about everything you do and it will enjoy having a variety of stuff.
