29/2/04 - First Day Home

Well we've had a great day.  Trim cried until we reached the freeway (a whole 2 minutes) & then pretty much slept the rest of the way home.  There was no sign of being carsickness whatsoever, so that was
great.

She met Zeus & Noah & behaved very appropriately.  I was worried about Noah, but he sniffed her a couple of times & then rolled over on his back, then up again & play bowed with her.  He really likes her.  Zeus is interested but was far too happy to see me to care too much.

Today I am hers!! We have played ball and she looks very proud carrying a tennis ball around the house. She also found a plastic bowl that she has claimed as hers & has been carrying it around.  She has ignored the other dogs outside & followed me everywhere.  A couple of my friends came over to see her & love her.  She has been wiggling around them & licking them but always comes back, sniffs my feet, licks my toes & lays in between my feet.  We went to school to pick up Chloe & she licked about 5 kids.  Chloe is of course beside herself.  I have been pretty firm b/c otherwise Trim will never get to rest.  At the moment she is sound asleep in her crate.  I hope today hasn't been too exhausting for her.

I just love her!!

She has already worked out how to open our sliding screen door...just grabs the bottom with her teeth & pulls it open.  She only does it if I go out without her.

She has taken over our big brown dog bed inside & nurses in it.  Everything I give her to play with, she carries it to the bed & plays with it.

This morning I gave the boys some left over spagetti.  She had already eaten inside, but saw them through the window & decided she wanted some of that.  You'll never believe it but she picked up her plastic bowl & brought it to me!! She loves spagetti.

I'm sure she has some retriever in her LOL.  Every toy I throw, she just brings it back & hands it to me.  She already knows ready set go & anticipates the throw.

She slept from 10.30pm till 6.45 in her crate last night with only about 1-2 minutes wimpering.

Todays smart puppy stories:

She will come to which ever fist I hold out, politely sit & eat food when I open my hand.  That is how she had her lunch today.  I just tried it again when Mike got home to show him & she remembered exactly what to do, first time, nearly 6 hours later.  I started to teach her to sit this morning & tried BBQ chicken but she goes crazy for it, so I thought plain kibble was a better plan, & thought it's never to early to teach her to come to a hand...she caught on real quick.

I was unpacking & found my little tunnel, so I put it in the backyard, squashed up.  She just walked straight through it.  Then when Chloe got home from school, Chloe was playing with the tunnel & bent it into a U-shape,  again she just went from one end to another.  While I obviously don't want to train her with it for quite some time, I'm going to leave it there, b/c she likes going through it.

Her favorite sleeping spot is already beside my desk & she is still doing really well going into her crate without much/any fuss.

Today she had another 6 visitors, which makes 14 all up in 2 1/2 days.  She loves everyone, especially the kids.  Tomorrow  we're going to show her to Chloes class for Show & Tell.  The teacher is a dog lover & sometimes brings her dog in for the day, so we had no trouble getting permission

We went to the vet today & got the worming tablets, she is 4.5 kilos & the vet said she's in perfect condition.

I then had to go to the chemist, what a slow trip, nearly every person I passed had to stop & make a fuss of her, then to Show & Tell where she was very happy to patted but 16 kids in Chloe’s class, as well as the teachers.

Today she's decided ZOOMING through the tunnel is fun & I'm not encouraging or rewarding it, she just really thinks it's fun.

She has a little bowl for water but is determined to drink from the bucket & has mastered it on her hind legs.  I also insisted on carrying her up the stairs from the backyard, but again, she thinks she knows better & has flown up them a few times before I could catch her.

5/3/04
Today was hot, so we all rested a lot.  She was inside with me & her crate door was open.  When she got tired, she just took herself off to bed.  I left the door open & she came out an hour or so later.

We are doing so well with "sit" that we tried "lay down" today...it took much longer, a whole 5 minutes instead of 2 (G).

She has also discovered stuffed kongs...she had to do something while I was typing all this.  She thinks they're pretty cool.
