The next day, ShuHuan and YiPing took a walk in the park. There ShuHuan told YiPing that after listening to her story, he admired her a lot for her courage. He also told her that ErHao and RuPing did not tell ZhenHua anything about her job in the nightclub. YiPing was relieved and asked ShuHuan to go watch the sunset with her at the Xi Du Bridge. For the first time, they watched sunset together and YiPing told ShuHuan she loves watching the sunset. ShuHuan offered to watch sunset with YiPing everyday if it could help her forget unhappy things. YiPing smiled and told him that he is very innocent. YiPing was curious why ShuHuan's interview with QinWuYe was taking so long. ShuHuan told YiPing that SHE was the real reason why he kept on going to the Grand Shanghai Nightclub. YiPing was pleasantly surprised. That night, in her diary, YiPing wrote: she was really moved by ShuHuan's words at the bridge and she wondered if she has really fallen in love with him. However, she reminded herself that she has a lot of burdens on her shoulders. She could not afford to fall in love and "keeping a distance" is the best advice to herself.
One night, outside the Grand ShangHai Nightclub, other rickshaw pullers attacked ZhenDe who has been taking YiPing home every night; luckily, ShuHuan rescued him in time. ShuHuan promised ZhenDe to take care of YiPing and would be taking her home from then on. ZhenDe no longer needed to come for YiPing and could spend more time with her daughter. ZhenDe was very pleased with ShuHuan.
Next morning, ShuHuan suddenly visited YiPing and her mother, WenPei at their house. He introduced himself to WenPei and explained the purpose of his sudden visit. He did not want his "friendship" with YiPing to be a secret. YiPing was very surprised and uneasy about the situation. She explained to WenPei that ShuHuan was not her boyfriend. WenPei, however, was quite pleased with ShuHuan and told YiPing to go ahead and date if she wanted. YiPing then took ShuHuan to ZhenDe's house.
On the way there, YiPing asked ShuHuan why he suddenly appeared, he explained he had this urge to visit her mother when he woke up that morning. YiPing pretended to be angry but they enjoyed the little conversation very much. YiPing was very troubled by KeYun's illness. ShuHuan said he would introduce a doctor for her and ZhenDe was thankful. ShuHuan told YiPing that he was moved by her love and concern for KeYun. He also told her that she needs somebody to take care of herself. ShuHuan said he wanted to be that person but YiPing did not say anything.
ZhenHua told RuPing to bring money to YiPing's house. YiPing refused to accept ZhenHua's money again but RuPing ignored her and put down the money then left. YiPing has no choice but go to ZhenHua's house to return the money personally.
Meanwhile, ShuHuan and DuFei were at the house looking at RuPing's birthday party photos. They pretended not to know YiPing when she arrived. YiPing was insulted again by XueQin and again, got into an argument with her father for refusing to take his money. Her father was really mad and pulled YiPing. YiPing fell and coffee spilled all over her, so she had to change out of her coffee-stained dress in RuPing's room. YiPing saw RuPing's photo album under her pillow and looked through it. She saw those 'intimate' photos of RuPing and ShuHuan together at the picnic but RuPing took the album back quickly and scolded her for taking it without permission. YiPing left the house angrily and ShuHuan ran out after her.
Episode 7
ShuHuan chased YiPing to the park. There, the angry YiPing asked him why he was trying to start a love relationship with her and RuPing at the same time. ShuHuan tried to explain anxiously but YiPing refused to listen and denied being jealous. ShuHuan admitted that although RuPing has a lot of good points, he only loved YiPing. The argument then ended in a passionate kiss.
At night, YiPing wrote in her diary: if she took away ShuHuan, she could take revenge on the "other side". However, in her heart, she was confused: Does she like ShuHuan only out of revenge? But right away, she denied this thought. Her love for him is true and not because of revenge because she is so attracted to ShuHuan now. YiPing was going to write down her true feelings in the diary, but there was no more ink in her pen. Since she was really tired from thinking about all these, she decided to stop writing and went to bed.
DuFei looked for RuPing in her school. There, a patriotic student attempts to kill himself. DuFei told him that it would be more meaningful if he joins the army and died for his country. DuFei was cut accidentally when he tried to stop the student. RuPing took care of him at his home but left hurriedly when ShuHuan returned.
ErHao went to ShuHuan's home and warned him that YiPing is a time bomb waiting to explode. The two started fighting and ShuHuan declared he would not leave YiPing. They stopped only when they accidentally hit DuFei as well. RuPing arrived and asked ErHao and ShuHuan to go out and buy some things while she took care of DuFei. RuPing was very caring towards DuFei and he could not help confessing his love for her. RuPing told him very frankly that she only loves ShuHuan and that would never change. DuFei said his love for her would not change either. He understands how it felt and promised that they would be friends forever.
ErHao went to tell FangYu that he worried YiPing would use ShuHuan to hurt RuPing. FangYu could not stand him insulting his own sister and the two quarreled. FangYu even told ErHao he is very similar to his sister, YiPing. But they made up soon after.
FangYu met YiPing and admitted her relationship with ErHao. YiPing advised FangYu to stay away from ErHao before this playboy cheated her. But FangYu refused to take YiPing's advice.
Episode 8
ErHao went to the nightclub to confront YiPing. He scolded her for interfering in his relationship with FangYu. The two quarreled. YiPing was still very angry with ErHao for handing the horse whip to her father, ZhenHua that night she went to "that side" to ask for money. She said if it were RuPing instead of her, ErHao would never have done so. YiPing threatened to tell FangYu about the many love affairs of ErHao in the past. In his anger, ErHao splashed wine on YiPing in front of other people and ShuHuan.
ShuHuan blamed himself for failing to protect YiPing against ErHao. YiPing told ShuHuan how she and her mother were forced to move out of the Lu's big house five years ago. ShuHuan felt that he has now understood YiPing better and his love feelings for her grew stronger.
At the big house, RuPing almost started a fire when she was burning ShuHuan's photos in order to forget him. Nothing serious happened but ErHao told her to work hard and win ShuHuan's heart back. However, RuPing replied she wanted to give up ShuHuan in peace.
ErHao went to ShuHuan's home and apologized for his rough actions at the nightclub. He also told ShuHuan about RuPing and the fire. ErHao told ShuHuan that the he should have a good talk with RuPing to "settle" things between the three of them, once and for all.
ShuHuan and RuPing met to talk things out. RuPing took up enough courage to ask ShuHuan whom he loved. ShuHuan admitted he loves only YiPing. However, ShuHuan could not help being touched when RuPing told him he could always turn to her if YiPing ever let him down.
On the other side, ErHao admitted all his past love affairs to FangYu and told her he just loves her now. FanyYu was touched and their love for each other deepened.
At the mental hospital, LiSao hid the truth about KeYun and the father of her dead baby even though it was a key factor and might help KeYun's recovery.
Episode 9
At ShenBao Press, ErHao and ShuHuan quarreled again over ShuHuan's relationship with YiPing. DuFei separated them and suggested having a gathering for the six of them to solve all disagreement and unhappiness among them. Both ShuHuan and ErHao agreed to this idea.
DuFei went to RuPing's school with a basket of fruit which he called "Ru fruit" trying to please her. He got himself injured again when he tried to help her with some stage decorations.
At the Lu's house, MengPing overheard ErHao advising RuPing to give up on ShuHuan and accept DuFei instead. MengPing interrupted and RuPing accidentally let out YiPing's secret when she told MengPing that YiPing and ShuHuan already knew each other from the Grand Shanghai Nightclub. MengPing told ZhenHua about YiPing singing at a nightclub. ZhenHua scolded RuPing and ErHao for not telling him earlier.
ZhenHua looked up WenPei at her little house for the first time since the daughter and mother moved out. He blamed WenPei for letting YiPing sing at a nightclub. WenPei was very shocked and sad that YiPing had lied to her about working night shift at a trading firm. ZhenHua then went to the Grand Shanghai Nightclub. When he heard YiPing singing on stage the song "Unforgettable Past", memories of the happy days with WenPei came back to him. He sent a note to backstage and had YiPing go to his table. He told YiPing he would give her more money than she is making in the nightclub. He also told her to quit at once but YiPing refused right away. He blamed ShuHuan swinging between his two daughters. But ShuHuan told him that they both are his friends but YiPing is the one he loves. He then blamed ShuHuan for letting his girlfriend sing at a nightclub but ShuHuan replied that he has no right to make decisions for YiPing. Then, ZhenHua told QinWuYe he was only a father who wanted to bring his daughter back home. QinWuYe let YiPing decide for herself. YiPing refused to leave with ZhenHua. The father has no choice but to leave sadly, alone.
On the way home, ShuHuan told YiPing she has hurted ZhenHua deeply. The two quarreled when YiPing did not agree with ShuHuan that ZhenHua actually loves her in his heart. ShuHuan was disappointed with YiPing's cold-heartedness. ShuHuan told YiPing he felt as if he did not know her at all because the YiPing he used to know was not like this. The angry YiPing got off the carriage and told ShuHuan to leave. YiPing suddenly found herself standing alone on the street.
Back home, YiPing saw WenPei crying sadly and realized that her secret is known. She knelt down and asked for forgiveness but she would not quit her job at the nightclub. She explained to her mother that she would feel worse if she has to beg money from her father. YiPing also told WenPei about what happened at the nightclub and what ShuHuan has just said to her. She told her she could not bear it if her own mother, WenPei, does not understand and care about her any more.
At ShuHuan's house, DuFei asked ShuHuan if he had quarreled with YiPing. ShuHuan confessed that he loves YiPing, including her 'bad' points. He suddenly remembered that he had left YiPing alone on the street the previous night. He then quickly ran to YiPing's house.
Episode 10
YiPing opened the door and found ShuHuan standing before her. He said sorry for leaving her all alone on the streets last night. He told YiPing he only wanted her to forget revenge and the unhappy past, so she can enjoy life happily. YiPing was finally moved by ShuHuan and promised to listen to him and be happy. YiPing even agreed to go to the "other side" to see her father.
On the way there, YiPing was surprised to see a man took XueQin and ErJie home in a black car. When they reached the house, XueQin welcomed both very mockingly. YiPing told ShuHuan softly he should know by now what life was like for her in this big house. YiPing told ZhenHua she was determined to work at the Grand Shanghai Nightclub because it could support her mother and her well but ZhenHua did not agree with her. He wanted her to quit and was prepared to go to court if QinWuYe would not let YiPing go. ShuHuan ensured ZhenHua that he would protect YiPing at all costs but ZhenHua was still determined to get YiPing out of the nightclub. YiPing argued with ZhenHua about the meaning of "giving in" and told him she never knew what "giving in" was. ZhenHua almost hit YiPing with the whip again but suddenly remembered what happened when he whipped her last time. The whip had broken the father and daughter relationship between him and YiPing. YiPing was about to leave the house when MengPing slapped her for stealing away RuPing's "boyfriend", ShuHuan. ShuHuan blamed himself for asking YiPing to go to the "other side". He told the crying YiPing he finally understood why she could not forget all her unhappiness and promised not to give her anymore pressure.
Outside the Grand Shanghai Nightclub, YiPing saw WenPei standing in the rain. YiPing was very guilty for letting her mother suffer. WenPei told YiPing she would wait for her every night outside there if YiPing would not quit her job. ShuHuan finally persuaded WenPei to stop torturing herself and talk at home instead. The three went home.
Back home, WenPei told YiPing that she was just very sad about her singing at a nightclub. YiPing explained that she enjoyed singing a lot and it was much better than having to beg her father for money. However, WenPei still wanted YiPing to go back to studying. ShuHuan then tried helping YiPing and assured WenPei he really loves YiPing and would look after her and protect her with his life. He vowed to protect YiPing because she is also "his" YiPing. YiPing begged her mother to let her continue singing for two more months so that she could earn and save more money for themselves and also for ZhenDe's family, especially for KeYun's medical fees. She would quit if by then WenPei still insisted on it. WenPei finally agreed.
