XueQin went to WeiGuangXiong for help and asked him to get a doctor to do an abortion for MengPing. The operation failed and MengPing was sent to the hospital. Although her life was saved, she could not have children anymore. RuPing told ShuHuan about MengPing and he was very upset.
ShuHuan went to tell YiPing what happened to MengPing. They went out for a walk. At the same time, ZhenHua went to see WenPei and asked her to go to the hospital to see MengPing with him. Although unwilling, WenPei left a note for YiPing and went with him to the hospital.
Meanwhile, XueQin went to see WeiGuangXiong and blamed him for what had happened to MengPing. She was furious to see him with another woman.
When YiPing returned home and read the note her mother left her, she quickly went to the hospital with ShuHuan. At the hospital, XueQin was insulting WenPei when YiPing walked in. YiPing quarreled with XueQin and ZhenHua. ZhenHua told everybody the reason he brought WenPei there was to show them that her position in the family is senior than XueQin.
At home, YiPing was still upset with her mother going to the hospital with her father. WenPei patiently explained to her that it is the Chinese women's virtue to obey their husbands' orders. YiPing did not agree. ShuHuan tried to comfort her and praised RuPing who tried to stop the quarrel in the hospital. That made YiPing even more upset and left the house.
YiPing went out alone. She thought of the things ShuHuan said and the ups and downs that they had gone through together. She finally calmed down and decided to go home and made up with ShuHuan.
Meanwhile at YiPing's house, ShuHuan was waiting for YiPing to return. He saw YiPing's dairy lying on her desk. Curious about YiPing's thoughts about him, he was tempted to read the dairy just to find that the dairy was filled with hatred written by YiPing. He turned to the pages that YiPing wrote about him when they first met and was shocked to find that he is just a "tool" YiPing used to hurt RuPing and revenge to the "other side". At this time, YiPing came home.
Episode 27
YiPing found ShuHuan reading her dairy in her room. She was shocked to see the expression on ShuHuan's face. She knew right away that ShuHuan must have read the part she wrote about using him as a revenge tool. She tried to explain that those were not the words from her heart. She begged him to listen to her explanations and continue to read what she wrote later on in the diary. ShuHuan, heart broken, refused to listen. He said loving YiPing was the biggest mistake he made in his life and left. YiPing knew that she had hurt not only ShuHuan's heart, but also his pride and his self-esteem. She knew he would not return to her this time.
ShuHuan was very upset with himself being used by YiPing. When he got home, he was totally broken down. Out of anger and disappointment, he hit a mirror and hurt himself. Seeing this DuFei went to YiPing for help, only to see her in similar heart broken condition.
ErHao and RuPing went to see ShuHuan and RuPing took care of his wounds. In front of such a caring girl who insisted to be always there for him, the deeply hurted ShuHuan could no longer control himself and kissed RuPing. But right away, ShuHuan realized that he was not supposed to kiss her since he did not love her. Not knowing what to do, he told RuPing, ErHao and DuFei to stay away from him. RuPing was shocked with mixed feelings at ShuHuan's kiss. However, DuFei was so angry with ShuHuan that he hit him hard on the face. RuPing insisted on staying to look after ShuHuan. ErHao and DuFei could not change her mind. So they also stayed and watched SuHuan the whole night to avoid further crazy behaviours of SuHuan.
The next day, ShuHuan went out and had a fight with the soldiers on the street and was almost killed. DuFei and ErHao were worried.
YiPing tried to keep her mind off ShuHuan. She made herself busy by doing housework without stopping. She finally got too tired and fell on the floor. WenPei was very worried and heart broken to see YiPing in such a condition.
FangYu went to ask YiPing what happened and YiPing showed her the diary. FangYu found the dairy filled with revenge words in the beginning. But after YiPing started going out with ShuHuan, the content had changed. Unfortunately, ShuHuan never got a chance to read the later part. FangYu decided to help YiPing and bring the dairy to ShuHuan, asking him to read the whole diary.
However, ShuHuan refused to go on reading the diary. He told FangYu that his relationship with YiPing was over. He does not love or care about YiPing anymore.
Episode 28
ShuHuan went to see ZhenHua and told him that he had broke up with YiPing. But he refused to tell the reason. ZhenHua went to ask WenPei who told him that he was the real reason behind. ZhenHua could not understand. WenPei told him that YiPing grew up in a family filled with hatred and did not know how to love anymore.
YiPing had gone to the horse track with FangYu. YiPing told FangYu that the dairy was not the only cause that broke down ShuHuan. She told FangYu that MengPing's incident was the real reason. ShuHuan felt guilty about not being able to stop that happened. He also felt sorry and would not know what to do about RuPing's love for him. FangYu thought that the Lu family might be too complicated for ShuHuan to handle. She comforted YiPing that ShuHuan would return to her once he calmed down and could think carefully. YiPing was not so sure.
ZhenHua went to the horse track to find YiPing. He wanted YiPing to go talk to ShuHuan with him. YiPing begged him not to go. She did not want his father to lower his pride and dignity because of her. ZhenHua was moved.
YiPing went to the ShenBao Press office and waited for ShuHuan to get off work. She lowered all her pride and begged for his forgiveness. But ShuHuan was very cold to her. She told him that it was very difficult for her to gather enough courage to go to see him. The road from her house to his office seemed very long and difficult to walk. But still, ShuHuan was not moved. He asked YiPing that if her reason to see him was to grab him back from RuPing again. Having heard that, YiPing was hurt and thought that ShuHuan had gone back to RuPing in such a short time. Seeing YiPing in such great sadness, ShuHuan almost wanted to accept YiPing again. But still, he could not stand the thought of being used by YiPing. Cold words were exchanged between them and finally, YiPing left with a broken heart.
DuFei saw YiPing waiting for ShuHuan and thought they made up again. He prepared a very nice dinner to entertain RuPing. But when ShuHuan returned, RuPing quickly asked him if YiPing had disappointed him. She reminded him of her love. ShuHuan's thoughts were torn between the loving and forgiving RuPing and the strong and revengeful YiPing.
Leaving behind her pride again, YiPing wrote a letter to ShuHuan, asking him to give her another chance and meet her outside the Grand Shanghai Nightclub. The letter ended up in a pile of readers' letters and he did not notice it. YiPing waited for ShuHuan in front of the Grand Shanghai Nightclub the whole night but he did not come.
War broke out in the area of SuiYuan. ShuHuan wanted to leave Shanghai and get his thoughts away from YiPing. Although he knew it would be dangerous, he volunteered to go to SuiYuan to cover the story about the war. YiPing knew that ShuHuan left Shanghai because of her and was very sad.
RuPing asked DuFei to bring her to SuiYuan to see ShuHuan. DuFei refused because it was too dangerous for a girl to be in the battlefield. RuPing told DuFei that she would marry him in return if he could bring her there. DuFei then realized that RuPing's heart is only with ShuHuan. He finally agreed to bring RuPing there but asked her not to marry him because of this.
Meanwhile, YiPing read ShuHuan's reports in the ShenBao Press everyday just to check if he was safe or not.
Episode 29
RuPing and DuFei went on their way to SuiYuan and had a lot of hardships. Their belongings were stolen on the train. DuFei almost lost RuPing and they were almost killed.
Meanwhile, YiPing waited for ShuHuan's letter everyday but there was none.
ShuHuan was very happy to see DuFei again and was more surprised to see RuPing. After he learned the hardships she had gone through to find him, he was so moved. He could not resist her anymore. They decided to go back to Shanghai the next day. Different members of the Lu family reacted differently about ShuHuan and RuPing's new relationship.
Episode 30
XueQin was very happy that ShuHuan and RuPing were together again. She was afraid ShuHuan would change his mind and urged them to engage as soon as possible. The following Saturday was chosen for the engagement party.
ZhenHua took ShuHuan aside and asked him about his relationship with his two daughters. ShuHuan finally told ZhenHua that he read YiPing's dairy and found that it was full of hatred and he was used as a tool for revenge. He also told ZhenHua that YiPing does not know how to love someone. ZhenHua soon understood what WenPei meant about him being the root of YiPing's problem. He asked ShuHuan if he loves RuPing. ShuHuan would not answer but just said that he would take good care of her. Meanwhile, ErHao and MengPing questioned RuPing about her relationship with ShuHuan and told her to think carefully about her engagement. However, RuPing refused to listen because she was too happy about her future with ShuHuan.
ErHao blamed DuFei for bringing RuPing to SuiYuan and told ShuHuan to take good care of RuPing. He also told ShuHuan to talk directly to YiPing himself.
YiPing heard about the engagement news from ZhenHua. Knowing that YiPing still loves ShuHuan and it was partly his fault that they broke up, ZhenHua wanted to make the decision for her. YiPing refused. At this time, ShuHuan came to see YiPing. YiPing was upset and insulted him. WenPei reminded ShuHuan of his promises to YiPing. YiPing got more upset and stopped WenPei. She bitterly told ShuHuan that he was just a tool and she had never loved him. ShuHuan did not answer back but just told YiPing about the engagement and left.
FangYu went to see ShuHuan and gave him YiPing's dairy. She told him to finish reading the dairy before his engagement, just for YiPing's sake. ShuHuan was tempted to read it. DuFei stopped him and told him to lock it up in his drawer.
YiPing convinced her mother to let her go to RuPing and ShuHuan's engagement party. YiPing wanted to prove to herself that she could still live well without ShuHuan and would be strong enough to face RuPing and ShuHuan in the future. WenPei sent ZhenDe to go with YiPing and made her promise not to make a fool of herself in the party.
At the engagement party, to everyone's big surprise, a charming and beautifully dressed YiPing appeared at the door.
