A Munchkin
is a cat that carries a dwarf gene which is dominant. This gene is a naturally
occurring gene, which causes them to have short legs. This gives them a
kittenish appearance which they retain through out their lives
These cats are not a new breed by any
means. There are documented reports of
short legged cats in Great Britain in 1944, Germany in 1956, New England in the
1970’s and Louisiana in the 1980’s. In
1983, Sandra Hochenedel, of
Munchkins do not have any special health
problems. The are a healthy, normal breed of cat. The are recognized by T.I.C.A. (The International Cat Association) and come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
My Experience with Munchkins has been that
they are some of the cutest, sweetest animals I’ve ever had the pleasure of
owning, but I guess I’m prejudiced !
