Britain Oop North |
I arrived in Manchester on 25 November 1998, and spent until the new year staying with my brother- and sister-in-law in Rochdale. Tony arrived just before Christmas. During that first month, I did some sightseeing in the region, and had few days in Carlisle and Edinburgh. We spent Christmas at an hotel in Blackpool, then set off south touring on 4 January 1999. We returned to Rochdale mid-January and did a bit more sightseeing in Wales and the north-west before heading home. Staying in one locale for the first month was a great way to get acclimatised, and to really get a feel for the place -- even down to exploring the relative merits of Tesco vs. ASDA. And it was wonderful to become acquainted with Tony's family. (Go to my Pomes page to read more about my impressions of the Mother Country). |
