Hale County Page Three
This is a cotton gin located behind the old depot in Greensboro. Rev. John DuBois manufactured gins in Greensboro, Demopolis, Tuscaloosa , and probably other places, selling the DuBois Cotton Gin through agents throughout the United States. Because of the age of this building, it is possible that it originally contained the DuBois gin.
This house on Tuscaloosa highway was built by Dr. Rufus DuBois and his wife, Martha Jane Slaton DuBois around the time of their marriage in the 1850s. They remained here until their respective deaths in 1905 and 1907. Their daughter Mattie owned the home a few years before it was sold.
