![]() Meet the first shortwave receiver I ever received, Grundig's Yacht Boy 305. My parents gave it to me a couple years ago as a gift. Ever since then I have been an avid lister of world band radio. It is one of the best portable shortwave radios for picking up weak signals. I never appreciated this feature until I started looking at other portable shortwave receivers. It's great because you can just punch in the frequency of the station you want to listen to. With this radio I became a regular listener of the BBC, Voice of Free China (I think they are now known as Taipei International), and Radio Japan. With this radio I kept up to date on current affairs around the world for my International Studies courses! I have found it to be a wonderful radio. It will even pick up world band radio stations in my basement apartment without an external antenna! Not a simple feat for the average receiver! |
The Radio Shack's DX-394 was just recently added to my collection of receivers. It like my YB 305 does really well at picking up those week signals from around the world here in the hills of Tennessee! With this radio I not only listen to shortwave stations, but I am also able to pick up ham radio stations and distant medium wave stations. I don't know how it compares with the more expensive recievers, but for the price I don't think one could do better. I was able to buy it on a shoe string budget under $200! Try buying a new tabletop receiver in that price range! |
