Aims and Objectives
With the kind blessings of Mahatma Gandhi, Late Sardar A.Vedaratnam
Pillai, the veteran freedom fighter and pioneer of the Vedaraniam
Salt Satyagraha in the Southern India launched by our beloved
Rajaji in the year 1930 devoted his entire attention to the constructive
programmes of Mahatma Gandhi. He started the Gurukulam in the
year 1946 to educate the girls in villages which is one among
the constructive programmes of Mahatma Gandhi and named it as
Kasthurba Gandhi Kanya Gurukulam. A sister institution by name
Sr Thayumanavar Vidyalayam was also started by him to educate
both boys and girls. A public trust was founded by him to manage
theses institutions and an extent of 25 acres of his own lands
was donated to the Trust. The Trust was registered as a Public
Charitable Trust.
The main aims and objectives of the Trust are as follows :
a. To run a basic school and the attached hostel established
in that place and names Kasthurba Gandhi
Kanya Gurukulam.
b. To do rural work in the surrounding villages.
c. To establish and run training camps and training schools
on the principles preached by Mahatma
Gandhi.
d. To do such other activities as may be in consonance with
the constructive activities preached by
Mahatma Gandhi.
With due regard to the above ideals greater stress was given
on the educational and socio-economic upliftment of the downtrodden
village women, especially widows, deserted women, orphans, etc.,
by providing them education and training in various crafts and
industries and employment opportunities wherever possible.
The trust was looked after by Late Sardar A.Vedaratnam Pillai,
the veteran freedom fighter and by his only son Late Padmashri
V.Appakutti, M.J.F., After their demise Sri.A.Vedaratnam, is looking
after its working in terms of the approved objectives. The trust
is chaired at present by Sri.A.Vedaratnam Jr., Managing Trustee.
Expecting your kind help.
