Homage to Vilayet: Ustad Vilayat Khan was remembered on the occasion of his 76th birth anniversary at Sunny Towers. In an informal atmosphere, the evening began with a sitar recital by the young Ramprapanna Bhattacharjee, with Ansubha Bandopadhyay on the tabla. He is a student of Kashinath Mukherjee, who was himself student of Ustad Vilayet Khan. Ramprapanna gave a neat recital in raag Jhinjhoti. He presented a compact alap followed by two gats. It was apparent from his alap and faultlessly executed taans that he is shaping into a worthy member of this gharana, namely the Vilayat Khani Gharana of sitar.
