Provincial was an Aladdin's Cave of curiosities. This Arab III had bodywork by Brislington Bus Works! Photo by C.Essex |
Strachan seemed to come and go over the years. This example was for the 1951 Commercial Motor Show. Later it ran with Highland Transport and then to Peace on the Orkneys. 1961 Photo by G.Rixon. |
Saunder's-Roe were the "In" people at one stage, this glorious design sits on a Tiger Cub, with East Midlands. Seen here at Ridgeway. Photo by J.Turnbull |
When E.C.W. were briefly set free, they built on many different chassis. This one looks better than any Bristol ever did (Sorry!). Daimler Fleetline photo by J.Law |
Another rarity, A Saunder's-Roe bodied Bristol with Maidstone & District. Photo by E.Kentell. |
Never mind "Buy British", Birkenhead Council went a stage further and had a class of vehicles bodied in their own town. Nothing is known of the company before or after this foray, but looking like they were modelled on Massey, this Ashcroft on PD2 looks quite a nice job. Photo by C.Essex |
Another attempt to keep work local, Ribble had these PD2's bodied by Burlingham, better known for it's coaches than buses. Still, a nice design though. |
Many of Hull and East Yorkshire vehicles were modified to run into Beverley. There was an historic arch over the main road into the town which meant these specially modified roofs were a feature in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Photo by N. Halliday. |
