I have put some examples of some Amperex and Mullard tubes here to illustrate the point that labels don't hold as much weight as one may think. On the left is a Phillips made in the Phillips plant Canada, code reads r3L3,and on the right is a Amperex Holland tube made at the Heerlen plant.Take the print and codes off these tubes and one would have a hard time telling them apart.Further down on the left is a Mullard 12ax7,made for EI-Menco,code reads,B5?1.Below that is a Mullard with the shield logo, code B7A.These tubes are identical in every way except the label.Amperex and Mullard made tubes for many other companies through the years and this is a good example of that.I should point out that these tubes sound very similar as well.I do have two Electrohomes from Holland ,and three Electrohomes from Canada.Again all Amperex construction. For the hardcore Bugle Boy fan who has to have the Bugle boy Logo on his tubes these wont do,But you will pay big money for those Bugle boy Logos.Im OK with what ever logo is on my Amperex if I can get it for half the price.I also have an Amperex tube labeled Zenith.Amperex and Mullard tubes do sound very good.Very rich low mid, with great dynamic response. |
