GOOD EXPRESSION, LIGHTING, POSITION are all necessary for the artist to get the best results.   It is great if the artist is able to work from one main photo.   Other photos are usually necessary to help the artist pinpoint any areas of the subject to develop a truly special portrait that will bring many years of enjoyment.

*EXPRESSION*

Getting that great expression can be hard, so get someone who knows your pet to help or either let them photograph your pet while you work with your pet to get some great and pleasing expression.  Use favorite treats and toys and anything that can make an interesting sound to get your pet’s attention.  If your pet(s) get bored, STOP for the day and try again another day.

*LIGHTING*

It is best to take the photos outside, late morning to early afternoon on an overcast day - that will normally give the best light for photographs.   You do not want hash, overly-bright sunlight, or dim evening light, or dark, cloudy daylight.  Photos taken indoors need to be taken with a camera that has a red eye eliminator or the photos can be digitally enhanced to eliminate the red eye.    But the artist will also need photos of your pet outside in order to get the correct coat color.  Please try to get a similar pose so that the artist can see the size and markings correctly.

*POSITIONING*

**IMPORTANT**  ALL photos must be taken with camera on the same level as your pet to prevent distorted images of your pet.  Either get down on the pet’s level or put the pet up on your level.  A porch or deck can make a great place to get a pet up on the photographer’s level.  Photos should be close up and clear.   Be willing to take a lot of photos in order to get a few good ones.  When possible, it can be helpful to take photos on 2 or 3 different days.  Our pets are like us; they have their good days and their bad days.

*GROOMING*

Have your pet(s) properly groomed and clean since stains will appear as natural color.

Photos must meet the artist’s approval before she can accept the commission.    All photos will be returned once the portrait has been completed.
