CHALYBEATE SPRINGS
Minneapolis had its very own mineral water resort from 1875 to 1883. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in what is now Pillsbury Park, the seven springs are still flowing as lustily as ever. Six of them are chalybeate (containing iron), and deposit iron suboxide upon coming into contact with the atmosphere. The remaining one is non-chalybeate. They issue from the Platteville Limestone at bentonite layers.
