Okay this is going to be a page where i rant about the new system. Right now it's mostly ideas and very little calculations, but hopefully i will get a chance to test it out soon.
Miniatures! One of the most noticable change to my battle rules will be the inclusion of miniatures. I'll be using d&d random pack miniatures because they are cheap. I won't be using their rules or stat cards, but a lot of my rules will be based on the d&d rules. I also like the idea of using stat cards so i'm going in take the time to make my own, so that all of the battle information for a given enemy or ally will be right at my fingertips.
Here a few of my first rules. Everyone can attack twice per round in the order given by rolling initative. No more "attacks per melee" stuff. Its just too hard to balance characters with different numbers of attacks, plus its just one more thing we have to keep track of. Attacking on different sides causes a bonus, zero for head on, plus one on the sides, and plus three from behind for the roll to strike. Because of the nature of the system, whenever someone moves away from an enemy the enemy gets a chance to roll a strike. This is to keep people from attacking and running away. Oh yes and the count for moving is a striaght count no special rules for diagonals, thats just too complicated.
Techs are another something new. They are special moves that can be made in battle. There are also passive techs that are always on and effect the character in some way. Techs are gained per battle level and also different jobs have a different starting number. What techs a character can have depends on their race and ethnicity, their job, wps, and attributes. Some techs may have prerequisite techs as well.
Which reminds me. There will no longer be different hand to hand levels as well. Instead everyone starts out with what their job gives them and then builds on it with one latter of battle level rewards. There will be some options to this so that different characters can customize in different ways.
Okay heres how you should create a new character. Decide race and ethnicity (optional). Roll attributes accordingly. Roll/ Choose hair color, eye color, hieght, psionics and so on. Select job and skills. Add in any attribute bonuses. Calulate basic battle stats. Add in any bonuses. Select techs. Add in any bonuses. Write up battle stat card.
