| This walking tour is the best way to explore the city, its monuments, churches and main sights. We will start with the tour at the, so called, New part of the town, in front of the City Museum. Walking towards pedestrian zone we will arrive at the main square called, simply, Macedonia square. Then we will cross the river Vardar, the bigest Macedonian river, walking on the oldest bridge in town - The Stone Bridge. The left bank of the river is also known as "Old Town". Here you can feel the atmosphere of the Skopje's Bazaar, visit some old craftsmen shop located in 19th century houses or have a tea in some traditional tea shop. Before afternoon we can visit, so called "Upper town" - The Old Skopje Fortress (Kale). Here is also the Museum of Contemporary Arts. Nearby standing the biggest mosque in Skopje - Maustapha pasha mosque and the Museum of Macedonia complex ( Museums of History, Ethnology and Archeology) Here is the bigest collection of Icons in Macedonia. We will finish our tour visiting the church of St. Spas (holly Salvation), the most famous church in Skopje and Macedonia with its marvellous wooden carved iconostasis. Late afternoon is reserved for lunch in some national restaurant in Old Bazaar (Charshija) Here you can taste some Macedonian specialties. End of tour |
