| 002 SIGHTSEEING OHRID & OHRID LAKE |

| We will start with a walk from the Old city Fortress also known as King Samoil’s Fortress, reconstructed several years ago. Nearby we will visit Plaosnik, with excavations of the early Christian basilica, currently restored. Here, in the 9 century, St. Clement of Ohrid founded the First University of Europe and educated 3, 500 students. After, just opposite of the fortress we will visit one picturesque complex with the Church Mother of God Peribleptos where the relicts of Saint Clement are resting, Near the church is located the famous Galery of Icons. This place offers a magnificent view to the Ohrid town. We will go down, pass the Antic theatre and visit the cathedral church of St Sophia. After this visit and a short break we will visit one of the most famous churches in Ohrid, St John Theologian, Kaneo, standing at the terrace, over viewing the Lake. Going back to the centre we will pass the House of the Robev family where today is housed a museum of archaeology, and the House of Urania, today a Museum of ethnology. We can have a lunch at some fish restaurant located near St. Sophia church. They offer a wide variety of cuisines, but it is recommend to taste the famous and endemic Ohrid trout. After lunch, in the afternoon, we will have a 30 min drive to the other side of the Ohrid lake, to the village of St. Naum where we can visit the Monastery of St. Naum, built on the top of a rock over the lake. The monastery of St. Naum of Ohrid is situated close to the springs of the Black Drim River, which then flows out of the lake at Struga. You will have a chance to hear , according the legend, the heartbeats of the saint who rests in the monastery church. Back to Ohrid in the evening. End of tour Optional: tour by a rowing boat around the springs of the river Crni Drim. Back to Ohrid in the evening. End of tour. Optional: overnight in village house in nearby village Trpejca |
