Danza del Amor
vita bella remembers
By Brian Palmer
Chocolate fountain, Sexyback, and power outage. What do these three things have in common? All three were found at Danza del Amor held at Vita Bella on Saturday, February 3, 2007.
     There was a large turnout of guests, family and friends, in spite of frigid temperatures and threats of bad weather. Party-goers were treated to staff performances which included a hip-hop/cha cha to Justin Timberlake's Sexyback performed by Brian and
Nichole, a Viennese waltz performed by John W. and Heather [during which the power went out at the 9 o'clock performance], and a few argentine tangos performed by guest dancer, Otterbein College's John Devlin and our very own Heather and Nichole.
     Guests were also provided with an array of hors d'oeuvres and beverages including a brand new chocolate fountain.
     If you missed Danza del Amor, make sure to catch our Mardi Gras Gala on Saturday, March 3, 2007. Call for details.
Movement Di Vita
class variety at vita bella
By Brian Palmer
Here at Vita Bella we specialize in the instruction of Ballroom Dancing in the social setting, but that is not all you will find here. We offer a series of movement classes as well, such as Nia, Yoga, Pilates, and Hip-Hop.
     Nia [Neuromuscular Integrated Action] is an integration of three dances arts (Isadora Duncan dance, modern dance, and jazz), three martial arts (aikido, tae kwon do, and tai chi), and three healing arts (Alexander Technique, yoga, and Feldenkrais). It was developed by Carlos and Debbie Rosas in 1983 as a holistic way of being healthy and an alternative to the "no pain, no gain" philosophy of the time.
     They discovered that getting fit and healthy through pleasure is the way to heal and is the key to health. Nia supports the pleasure principal: if it feels good, keep doing it! If it hurts, then stop! Pleasure and joy are stronger motivators than pain and guilt in the pursuit for better health. Some studies have shown Nia to be one of the most innovative and safe cardiovascular programs available.
     Unlike other classes you may take, there is no special footwear required. Nia is practiced barefoot to a variety of music. It is a cardiovascular and whole-body conditioning regimen that is adaptable and safe for every fitness level and aptitude, from an out-of-shape novice to an experienced fitness fanatic.
     Yoga, one of the healing arts Nia draws from, is a system of exercises practiced to promote control of the body and mind as part of a Hindu discipline aimed at training the consciousness
for a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility. What is thought of as yoga in the Western World s actually Hatha Yoga.
     Hatha Yoga attains the union of mind, body, and spirit through a series of postures, breathing, body gestures, and internal cleansings. Modern Hatha Yoga does not emphasize many of these esoteric practices and focuses primarily on the postures. The yoga exercises promote relaxation, concentration, toning, healing, and flexibility.
     Hip-Hop is a dance form that is extremely prevalent in the modern music and film industry right now. The combination of fluid and jerky movements done at a variety of speeds requires extreme body control and isolation of various parts of one's own body. The Hip-Hop class offered here at Vita Bella is a combination of instruction of various steps and aerobic exercise.
     Whether you are already enrolled in lessons here at Vita Bella or you are interested in starting, stop in and try one of our movement classes.  For more information or to schedule a lesson, call 1-614-294-DANCE.
