Anthony and Julia
january's spotlight students
By Brian Palmer
Since Vita Bella opened its doors we have watched a variety couples and individuals pass through our studio. some have come and gone, while others have stayed with us over the past few months. Each month the staff will select one couple or individual who’s efforts and progress demands attention and we will post it here as our Spotlights Students for that month.
Our Spotlight Students for January, as well as our first ever, are Anthony and Julia from the Dublin and Grandview areas. They began their relationship with Vita Bella Dance and Body Center a mere four days after we held our Opening Gala in October 2006.
Julia’s love of dance, along with the success of the television show Dancing with the Stars(c), stirred her desire to get back onto the dance floor. Having taken some dance in college Julia knew that, besides added grace and romance to her and Anthony’s lives, it would also feed into their competitive sides.
In December they were planning to attend the wedding of a friend, and dance lessons would allow them to show off at the reception.
Once they made it to Vita Bella’s door, they were surprised to find the studio had a very laid-back atmosphere that reflected the surrounding area of the Short North. The staff further surprised them with their friendly, fun personalities and understanding of the constraints of realworld schedules.
Since their first lesson they have developed a strong presence on the dance floor. Both Julia and Anthony have developed a love of Tango. The “difficulty, musicality,” and being able to “boss around” has brought the Tango to the top of each of their lists of favorite dances. What is number two? Rumba for Julia due to the sexiness of it and Meringue for Anthony due to the wide variety of moves and tricks.
Dancing has also given the the opportunity to grow closer as a couple and learn how to communicate effectively using their bodies instead of their words.
The staff here at Vita has thoroughly enjoyed watching this couple blossom over the past few months and look forward to seeing them continue to progress throughout the upcoming year.
