The Nintendo Ad.

Stephen Wyley

Craig Sitch, Tim Brown and myself travelled to Sydney last weekend to participate in the filming of the latest Nintendo ad. It all went well, lots of standing around in full armour for long periods of time, then charging at the camera with cavalry going before us.

The was no actual combat but the was a "Flying Wedge" workshop of sorts. So when some calls "Menagle Wedge" at Armidale later this year your will see an instantaneous transformation into an unstoppable juganaut made up of veterans from this latest shoot.

The ad itself is to promote the latest different coloured Nintendo consoles. Each different coloured army represents a different coloured console.

In conclusion, it was tiring, fun and they paid us to do it.

RE: Book of Kells on display in Canberra

Richard Krajewski

The dates for the above exhibition have been changed.  The correct dates are
25th February-7th May 2000 inclusive.

Only one volume of Kells has been released to the exhibition (unknown which
one at this time). During this time 3 (count 'em,three) pages will be
shown. The volume itself will be kept in a sealed, climate controlled case
at all times. It is not known at this time what viewing conditions will be
like.

The supporting exhibition will be 52 rarely seen manuscripts from
Australian and New Zealand collections, assembled by Professor Margaret
Manion.

A series of lunchtime public lectures and a related conference have been
organised.

A private showing and guided tour has been arranged with the NGA for
Saturday 1st April, 6-8 pm,
cost is $33 per head, depending on between 101-250 people. If you wish to
book for this evening, please contact Gemma Black on
bblack@pcug.org.au .

BAFFLING VIKING ARTIFACTS FOUND IN CAVE

DUBLIN (Reuters) - A hoard of Viking artifacts found in a cave in southern Ireland is baffling archaeologists.

The hoard discovered by a heritage worker cleaning the cave comprises coins, bronze and silver ingots and conical objects made of silver wire.

``Nothing like these have been seen anywhere, let alone in the Viking world. There is no parallel,'' Andrew Halpin, keeper of Irish antiquities at the National Museum in Dublin, told Reuters Friday.

``We think they could be ornaments for garments, or some kind of cloak fastener, but we're not sure. It's a very important find for academics studying this era.'' he said.

The hoard, found in county Kilkenny, south of Dublin, also includes Anglo-Saxon coins dating from 940, confirming historical evidence that the Vikings maintained settlements in both Ireland and northern England at the time.

Halpin said the cave may have been used as a refuge and the artifacts probably formed part of someone's personal wealth stashed for safe keeping during some kind of emergency.

A Viking presence at the site had been well established, he said, and there were records of a massacre of 1,000 people in the cave about 40 years before the earliest date on the coins.

Vikings first carried out hit-and-run raids on Ireland in 795 and later founded settlements, including most of Ireland's existing major towns, around 840.

Hi everybody,

Well to start with I want to thank you all for responding to my request for extras. The Production Company is very happy with the response, and they love what they've seen from my photo albums of Conferences etc.

However now they know what to expect, they are starting to get more concrete about the way things are going to be handled.  And they're changing their minds about some details now they can see the possibilities lying before them, so please excuse me if any new requests contradict what came before.  Stay flexible!

IF THERE IS ANYONE STILL WANTING TO JOIN IN that hasn't contacted me, please do so at once, because numbers WILL soon be finalised, probably by EARLY NEXT WEEK.

There are still plenty of spots available, but it will NOT BE POSSIBLE to come on board at the last minute, and the remaining places will be filled by grunts from casting agencies.

*** Please check the Webpage UPDATES link ***, as there is some very important new information about how we will get to the site, what we'll do, and how we'll be paid:

http://www.ozemail.com.au/~chrisandpeter/ad.html

[If anyone doesn't have Net access, please let me know and I will email you the text only version.]

A particularly urgent matter, all those persons registered as heavy armoured Foreground extras (only) will need to supply a PHOTO of their outfit/armour (all of them, for those supplying multiple sets) - ASAP (see webpage).

The best way would be to send a JPEG or GIF as an attachment, to my email:

chrisandpeter@ozemail.com.au

Sorry, I know this is going to be tough at such short notice - anyone who will have extreme difficulty with this request should contact me so that we can try to sort something out.

If anyone has changed their mind or for some reason is unable to come then you must advise me of your cancellation IMMEDIATELY (if not sooner!).

Some people have promised additional people in various categories but have not yet supplied names. PLEASE send me the names of these people asap so that I can register their attendence.

Don't forget to tell me whether or not you are available for Friday 28th Jan, if there are enough people they will do some shooting (to be advised).

Also if there is anyone who will NOT be available for the Sunday 30th Jan please let me know.

I will be away from home from Friday night (14th) until Sunday afternoon so please don't panic if I don't respond to your emails or calls in that period (and hopefully our mail server will cope with big dollops of image file data until then).
Once again, all correspondance should go to the personal address below, not via the L-H list.

I plan to update the page again on Monday.

Thanks for your co-operation, looks like we are going to have lots of fun!

cheers,

Christobel Ferguson.

Hi All,

I hope everyone had a safe and happy new year. The Y2K stuff was a bit of a fizzer and Jesus Christ did not have his second coming.

Great news! Annie Rogers and Roy Picton have been blessed with a little girl. Jessica Rose was born on the 1st of Janury at about 4.30 pm. Jessica Rose weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and measured 53 cm long. Mother and baby are well.

Congratulations to the new family!

BTW, Next year is the 20th year since the foundation of the Vlachernai Garrison, I think we should put on a little party for ourselves. What do people think?
