I thought it was about time I made a Frequently Asked Questions page, since I've had this site up for a while and people have asked questions.

Page started November/28/2004
1. You HAVE a website?
Yes, this is actually a question I frequently get asked. That's understandable among people who haven't seen it or who I haven't mentioned it around, but...I've been in the situation 2 or 3 times where I started talking about how I was updating my site or something, and people who have SIGNED MY GUESTBOOK said something like "I didn't know you had a website". Maybe this site just doesn't make enough of an impression.

2. What's the point of this site/How did this site start?
I decided to try and make one when some people who used Geocities PageBuilder told me that it was easier than I thought to make a site. I always thought it would be fun to make one, so why not try it? I didn't think I'd know what to put on it, but the pages and content seem to keep growing as I go along. It's pretty much whatever I think of putting on here as of now, rather than a "personal" page or a page about something. I'd have to say, although, that I do try to make a site that I myself would find interesting/entertaining to look at.

3. What kind of screen name is VLRGA?
I've been asked too many questions about it over the years, but I guess I have to answer it. When I first got the internet, I noticed most people's screen names pretty much told facts about them, like age, gender, location, hobbies, etc. I wanted to make a name that was neutral and wouldn't give anything away unless I talked. You know, something that would let my words speak for themselves. My initials are VLR, my ancestors are mostly German, and I'm an American, and voila - my screen name was VLRGA. (At first, I meant the "ga" to mean German-American, so the first name I used like this was VLRG-A, but I quit using that as I went to sites that didn't allow dashes.)
People have asked so many questions about these 5 simple letters. It's been mostly people asking if I was born in Germany, if I live there, if I speak German, things like that. It makes me wonder: Haven't people ever heard other people say "I'm German/Italian/Asian/Polish/Irish/African/ etc." ? Once they say that, do they ask them if they moved here from there? To say "I'm German" (at least in the USA and probably other countries with immigrants) simply means that the majority of your ancestors were from Germany, usually nothing more. I have other stuff mixed in there, too.
Besides that, I've also picked up my share of nicknames that I never guessed I would've gotten. Even with my dirty mind, I didn't forsee being called "Viagra" quite often. I also get "vagina" and "vulgar" once in a while. Once in a chat room, I said my name stood for "Very Large Rear Getting Action". Most people thought it was a funny joke, but it caused some weird dude to start asking me if I had a "ghetto booty". (Sighs...)

4. How often do you update?
Depends. At times, I've updated once or twice a week, but there have been times where I've gone 2 months or so without an update. The average I'd give is 2 or 3 times a month.

5. Why are there so many pictures on here?
I have an instant camera, a scanner, and a webpage. I also don't have much of a life. :)

6. Are your nails real?/How long do they take to grow?/etc.
Yes, my nails are real. (I don't think I've ever been asked that online, but I get it A LOT in real life.) I don't know why, since all the fake nails I've ever seen in stores have perfectly smooth color, all of the edges are smooth, they're all the same shape, etc. If allowed to grow on their own, the nails will have slightly different edges/growth and irregularities in the polish, especially with wear. Anyway, I usually cut my nails down to the nub every 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 months. Between 1 and 1 1/2 months after a cut, they'll start to get longish and people will ask the "are they real" questions to me. Most of the pictures you see on the nail pages are between 2 and 3 months' worth of growth, though some are shorter and some are longer. The longest I've ever been without a cut was not quite, but pretty close to four months. (
Update: I've since hit 18 weeks at one point.) Usually I cut when they start to get in the way too much, but it is slightly hard afterwards to get used to using your hands again to grab/touch things when you're used to the "finger extensions" out there to get things.

7. How did the joke pages come about?
Most of them were tried out on message boards (typing the title as the subject, then writing the rest of it as the post) and got good reactions. As I put wanted to put more stuff on here, they were naturally what I used to make the site bigger.

8. How did the Fairy Tales page start?
I was talking on the phone with a friend, when she says to me, "Tell me the story of Cinderella, but make it your own version. I got my boyfriend to do the same thing the other day, and it had talking pigs in it and stuff!" Since I kept getting begged to do it, I went along with the odd request, but I told the out-of-the-ordinary and X-rated
"Sinderella". (Isn't there an actual adult film named that? Not that I'd know or anything...) What I blabbered on about on the phone was pretty close to what you see on the page now. Somehow I got the idea to put it on my site and make a whole section for naughty fairy tales. I added a new one every once in a while from then on, and will probably continue to do so.

9. Speaking of naughty fairy tales, why do you overuse the word "naughty" so much?
It sounds nicer than other words like "dirty", "nasty", or "obscene", which sound more like insults than a mischievous description.

10. Why is the link for the Nature Scenes page naturesecenes.html?
I meant to title it as naturescenes.html, but I hit the extra E in between the S and C.

11. Why is your site yellow?
When I first got the page, I clicked on the background colors thing and thought it should be yellow, since black type would show up well on it. Since then, all the webpages here have been yellow to match each other and to show well. (The first day I made a page, it was yellow with a message in the middle of it something like: "Hi, I'm VLRGA, this site will be like this until I figure out how to make it. Have a nice day." A few days later, stuff was added, and you can see what it's been like from then.)

12. Can I link to/quote/copy anything from your pages?
Sure, you can link to anything on here. However, it would be best if you linked to the specific page you want people to go to. I've seen people talk about a certain portion of the site, but then link to the front index page. Also, I'd prefer it if you spelled my screen name correctly. I saw a site that had the letters in "VLRGA" all out of order (interestingly, the link worked and was spelled correctly, if you can spell a bunch of random-looking letters right once, why not twice?). I'm not trying to criticize small typos, but if you spell it correctly when you link to me, it'll prevent others from getting the actual link wrong and such stuff.
Can you copy anything from my pages? If you're going to take something and pretend it's your own work, NO. What I've seen that didn't bother me is a page where some of my
song parodies were written down (along with other parodies the person had written), but I was listed as the author of my own stuff. If you feel the need/desire to take anything from here to enhance a collection of something you have, I don't mind if you reprint it as long as I'm listed as the author, preferably even linking back to my page.
Do you want to quote something from here, probably a joke or something similar? That's fine, I feel jokes are almost public property anyway. Someone tells something for the first time (which some other people have probably also thought of close to it, because of coincidence), it gets repeated, someone changes or adds a few details, and it ends up that there are a few versions of a similar joke. Everything on my page probably has something like it on the net anyway; I just thought up the majority of it, but others have probably thought of it, too. Great minds think alike! :)

13. What kind of handwriting do you have?
Just for fun, I decided to put pictures of my handwriting on here. The sentence written is "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." It's supposed to have every letter of the alphabet in it. I don't know if I really believe in handwriting showing parts of your personality or anything, but some types of analysis seem to have some truth to them (such as a person with neat writing puts effort into organization, a person fitting letters into a small space is good at making use of what they have, etc.). I'm sure if you can analyse it, you'll find out I'm messed up in the head, which isn't anything I don't already know!

14. Why do you put the page counters at the top of the page instead of the bottom?
I put the link back to the index page and the link back or forward to whatever is needed at the top of the page, also. I put these and the counter at the top because you see the information about the page before reading it, so you see the information without searching for it at the bottom.
I'll add more questions in the future, those were just the basics I wanted to get down. Enjoy the rest of the site! :)
