| For some reason unknown to me you actually want to read this stuff. Well, let's start at the beginning... I was born in the great Amish metropolis of Sioux City, Iowa on the day of the "Black Rabbit", in the month of the "White Chicken", in the year of the "Brown Horse" (for you Chinese Astrology Buffs). My birth given name is "Little-Water-Maker", but that never really caught on so my folks just called me Cody. I would like to say I was named after the famous wild west icon "Buffalo" Bill Cody or some great roman gladiator Codeusiusmaximus, but no I was named after the band Commander Cody and His Lost Airmen...needless to say, I love my name though...even if it originated from a 60's band of hippies. Though born in the Midwest (in the South that's considered North), I've lived in Georgia since I was about two or three years old. Northern people say that I have a "Southern accent" but Southern people tell me that I don't. So now I guess I'm equally screwed. I have the best of both worlds: chivalry of the South (open doors, pull out chairs, pay for dates) and the dedication of the Midwest (work hard and reap what you sow). Growing up, I never was one for reading. However, if it weren't for Garfield, Calvin and Hobbs, or The Farside my sense of humor and outlook on life would not be what it is today. I understand that the meaning of life is to feel important (yup that's it...that is the answer we all seek; you might want to write that down). Wether it be something superficial like CEO of a corporation or to be unsaid like the idol of your child, the need to feel important is what it all boils down too. Atleast that's what I'm taking out of life...why wait till I'm dead to figure out what I already know...sorry if I spoiled the ending for ya. Oh yeah, and Darth Vader IS Luke Skywalker's father (might as well make sure you know everything). Before I babble on further let me break it down for you. In the last few years: I graduated from the State University of West Georgia in 2002. My major was marketing and my minor was synchronized-underwater-full contact-origami. My first gig out in "the real world" was with a Georgia political party. Those who know me would say that I'm more middle road than anything...I don't like the extreme nazi Right Wing or the extreme hippy Left Wing. Politics is dirty and petty, which is what I took away from my experience that election term...from both sides. I do enjoy hearing friends, who "know politics", go at it though. People get rilled up too easily. Once again, off the path I go... I spent the next year working with the Marketing/Sales department of the Savannah Sand Gnats Minor League Baseball organization...how cool is that!!! While I was there I made a lot of new friends and learned the value of my personal time and the (very little) money earned = blood, sweat, and all the boild peanuts I could eat. ***Quick holla' to all my Gnat peeps!!!*** A man can only live on free beer and stadium hot dogs for so long though; I do miss them both dearly. So it was back to the west Georgia region to stretch my sales skills and bank account. I had a short stint working for a marketing firm in Atlanta which handled the face-to-face sales for BellSouth. That was not my thing, I thought it to be more of a pyrimid scheme than anything. My next job was with Beneficial. Yeah, I had never heard of them either. I began as an Account Executive and after one month of training and 4 months sales I had made the company over $1,000,000.00 (yeah, that's a million) and I was promoted to Senior Account Executive. This however is not the job I would retire in. I need to fill in some background information here. When I was working with the Sand Gnats, I met the Community Relations Manager for Barnes & Noble in Savannah. She mentioned to me that she would be leaving the position soon and solicited me to replace her when gone. I had almost a year pass before this oportunity became available but I jumped at the opportunty. So I left Beneficial after making them over $2,000,000.00 in eight months...it's the legal mafia I tell ya. So this is where I am today. You wonder what it is that I do. Well in a nutshell I'm in a five-tool position: Management, Public Relations, Promotions, Sales, and Marketing. I cooridinate evnets for the store, handle outside accounts, and play the role of representative of the store in Savannah. It keeps me on my toes; everyday is different. 5 years prior to that: I was attending West Georgia. You can check out my extracurricular stats on this page. My Driver's License says: 6'2" (It's actually 6'3", but I think I'm done growing now) 160 lbs. (Its the average in America, but that's for guys who are 5'9") Hair: Blond (dark) Eyes: Blue (of course) Teeth: All of them (an important statistic in some states) So by my description alone, I sound like a Hitler youth (a last name that's German doesn't help the cause either). Little history fact: Hitler believed that the ideal people to populate the earth should be blonde haired, blue eyed, tall and slender. Yeah, pretty weird, we would all look like "Village of the Damned". Some people tell me that I look like Doogie Howser, other say I look like Conan O'Brien. I also get the, "You look just like someone I know!" So I'm guessing that there are a lot of me's running around. Family: My parents got divorced when I was almost 8. I received the standard, see your dad on every-other weekend, deal. That lasted until my dad skipped town, leaving my older brother and me as more statistics of a dead-beat dad. My Mom remarried a few years later to a great guy named Jim. Jim went one step further to becoming a father to us and adopted us. Mom and Dad have been great parents and I am thankful for them. ***side note*** My biological father was tracked down, to my knowledge he has remarried two times after my mom and I have two stepbrothers. I have not spoken to him since I was 9 or 10 and have only seen him and my stepbrothers once (at a funeral for a family member). Everything has worked out great; so don't cry for me Argentina. Jim passed away in the fall of 2003 from cancer. It really came out of the blue. In a two year span he was diagnosed and fought it to the end. My wonderfully unique family sent him off with a bang...literally. We threw a great party for him complete with bonfire, wine, kegs, and fireworks! Since he was cremated, we took a little bit of his remains in a small bag, taped it to one of the rockets and gave him a final send off. I know he would have loved it. Hell, he would have lit the fuse if he could. My mom has since taken on a career she always dreamed about as a little girl. Growing up in the era when flight was revered (think about the movie Catch Me if You Can), she has always wanted to be a flight attendant. Now she is!!! Even better than that, it's for a private jet company. She doesn't fly the red-eye to Dallas...instead it could be Las Vegas one day, followed by Alaska, and ending up in the Bahamas. I'm as happy as can be for her; this is a great opportunity. Pets: My mom has two cats (Dale and Oppy) and a dozen or so crazy squirrels that won't get off the property. I have a pet ferret (Tau) that was given to me by one of my ATO brothers (Thanks Richie) because he could not keep her in his apartment. She is about five years old now and the little critter is getting blind as a bat. Mom has since taken her in since my apartment doesn't allow pets (besides fish). I don't think I could get her away from home if I tried. Mom has taken a liking to her. Personal Description of Myself: If I had to describe who I am using adjectives, they would be: witty, compassionate, understanding, loyal, and confident. I can have fun with one person or be the life of the party. I do my best to make people feel comfortable and have a good time around me. Downside, sure we all have faults. I am a very secretive person when it comes to my personal life. I don't "kiss ant tell" or overload a conversation with my opinions of religion or politics. Being responsible is a curse I have been blessed with. I feel obligated to watch out for people whether they are close friends or someone I have just met. There are countless nights when I remained sober while my friends drank; just in case something goes wrong or if a Designated Driver is needed. My goal in life --- I want to make an impact in other peoples lives, which is probably why I joined so many organizations in high school and college. I'm a good listener and don't come to judgement early when people talk to me. I've been told by a lot of people that I'm one of the few people that they can trust to share their problems with. I do my best to be honest to others and myself. I hate it when people try to use smoke and mirrors to hide who they really are. I always try to improve myself and look at things in different ways. I have had a very fortunate life so far; things always seem to work out for me. I'm not sure what I'll be doing in the next 5 years, but I know I'll be successful at it. Back to Main Page |
