My Excuse This endeavor would have never been possible without the advent of computers. As you will learn early during your reading, spelling is a major obstacle for me. I misspell or use the wrong word at least once in every ten words typed, not counting the mistype ones. I know this because my word processor detects the misspellings and offers me a correction. The grammar checker catches many of the wrong words, but many get by. Every time I read a section over I find some foolish mistake in word use or spelling. Before I had a word processor with a spell checker I would read something over that I had written and many times I would recognize a word as being misspelled. I kept a spelling dictionary beside me at all times to look up the many misspelled words. Many words, even after looking them up, I would be unable to remember the correct spelling from the time I turned from the dictionary to correct the word. I would have to shuttle back and forth from the dictionary to the written word correcting one syllable at a time. The lack of an early education is not the only reason for my spelling problems. I only recently came across a book, The Gift of Dyslexia, by Ronald D. Davis (I only just now noticed that the "F" in the word gift in the title is printed backwards). I found in reading the book that some of the symptoms apply to me. I just accept the fact that spelling is a problem that is difficult for me to overcome. I simply accept the handicap and go on to do the best I can. OK, enough of this excuse, let's get on with the real story. I can only say, I have done my best. Please hand correct the words and go on trying to comprehend the content. Vern |
