Hi Mike, The picture of the jeep sent in by Jason, I reckon it's a Willys. It has a slat grille, Ford only had the pressed grille. So it must have been an early war Willys. Hope I'm right about this. My 1944 GPW was in service with the RAAF reg# 216095, Date of Delivery 9th May 1946 (MT Books?). It was "disposed of" on 5th January 1954. However I am going to restore it back to US It seems it was in service with the USMC in the pacific, but underneath the USMC green it has OD paint, which is the color it will be painted again once I finish restoration. The Commercial Motor magazine was a popular publication in the U.K. pre WW2, it appeared after the war also . This advert by Morris Commercial is typical of many that appeared during the war years . |
