One day I decided that I wanted to learn how to speak Spanish. I found a school in San Miguel Mexico and packed my bags to meet my new family that the school set me up with...the Lopez-Flores family. Here are a few pictures of my good times... | ![]() |

here is a horrible excuse for a picture... my camera sucks and this came out very blurry. But, what is going on here is some mariachis in el Jardin during the last weekend of San Miguel's festival of independance. (September 16 to 30)The structures in the back are for fireworks. Life in San Miguel is a continuous party. They have fireworks and cannons going off at all kinds of odd hours and days. I watched the man lighting these fireworks later that night --- he was lighting them with the cigarette he was smoking! Also, there are no barriers to stand behind, so a girl in my school was standing around watching the explosions and some particles rained down on her and caught her hair on fire... luckily everyone around her was able to pat out the sparks and she was fine, but we still teased her about it later. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Me at the altars in el jardin for the Dia de los Muertos festivities. The public altars were designed and crafted by local schools or civic groups and are contstructed from nothing but colored sawdust. Offerings were then placed to make the altars.
