Welcome to Wardour....
I totally love ghost stories, ancient castles and monuments, stories of mysticism, stone circles, folk lore and legend....

Upon visiting Britain, I got my fill of all these subjects!  I slept in hostels that were once actual castles, I walked through ancient burial grounds, timeless villages, stone circles... you name it!  But during my first days in England, I actually had a ghostly encounter!!!
When I first visited Britain, it was late September.  Tourist season was coming to an end, which proved to be a great advantage, as there were barely any crowds!

We visited Old Wardour in the early evening and arrived about a half an hour before closing.  Upon arrival, we discovered that we were the only people on the grounds!

Adding to the atmosphere, the sky was a pinkish hue and thunder began rolling in distant hills.  I could vividly imagine what it must have been like approaching her doors in a horse-drawn carriage.  Once inside, I walked through Wardour's rooms in awe; my imagination taking me back through time...   I clearly envisioned her past occupants while they warmed themselves by the fire or danced to ancient ballads within the torch-lit ball-room.  Amazing!!
Inside one of Old Wardour's rooms...
I'm thinking that perhaps Old Wardour's past occupants may have been a bit intrigued with me as well... because one of them made themselves known to me!!

As I ran through these rooms, I was totally smitten and engrossed with my camera.  I was snapping pictures and rambling excitedly to James - I could hear his boots following me floor to floor on the stairs; walking and shifting around behind me in the rooms.  It was when I entered the room shown above on the left, and was actually taking the picture on the right, that I looked through an opening in the wall and observed James by the chapel on the
other side of the grounds!!!!  At this point, I could still hear someone walking around and promptly turned around to see who I'd actually been talking to...  NO-ONE was in the room with me!!!

Heart pounding in my chest... I thanked Old Wardour for her hospitality and bid the invisible occupant a quick farewell...  After that, I fell in love with the place!!
Scenes from the movie, Robin Hood with Kevin Costnar (sp?), were filmed at Old Wardour!

And... If you love to be scared, you will shiver at something else I discovered in Britain.  I must warn you, this is very disturbing - Click *here* to see this terror!!

Gotta watch your step going down these stairs!!  Can you imagine what it was like when there was no electricity???
