2003 Monsoon

This morning I woke up to the smell of rain and a sky full of clouds. Today is Sunday, July 6, 2003. I decided to create a daily record of the monsoon including images, conditions, and my thoughts. I hope you enjoy!
Sunday, July 6, 2003-
Woke up at 5:15am, went outside, and it smelled so much like rain that I was searching around for puddles. There is moisture coming in rapidly from the south, but more than likely it will not stick around long enough to produce rain. The water vapor imagery does not show a significant amount of moisture. The expected high temperature today is 106-108. No rain is expected for the Tucson metro area until Friday, and then there is only a slight chance.

At 4:55am the dewpoint was 55, the relative humidity was 42, and the pressure was 29.90in. The temperature was 80, and the wind was SE at 10mph. It was partly cloudy

At 1:55pm the dewpoint is 45, the relative humidity is 14%, the pressure is 29.84 in, the temperature is 104,  and the wind is NW at 10mph, gusting to 21. The sky is hazy, and there is a lot more smoke due to the fire just flaring up. As you can see by the picture entitled 'tease', the cumulus will build and hang around for a while then dissipate, or it will do what it is doing now and move S into Mexico. It has heavy rain, and possibly hail according to the radar image at the Tucson NWS site. I would love to go after it, but crossing the border is involved and I don't have Mexico insurance, nor do I know my way around Mexico.

At 2:55pm the dewpoint is 45, the relative humidity is 13%, the pressure 29.81 in, the temperature is 105, and the wind is W at 14mph gusting to 17mph. It is growing cloudy and smoke is enveloping the E side of town.

At 3:55pm the dewpoint is 45, the relative humidity is 13%, the pressure is 29.79 in, the temperature is 105, and the wind is W at 13mph gusting to 21mph. It is partly sunny.

These two pictures were taken from the same spots at 3:05pm  - just one hour later

These were taken between 3:55 and 4:05. The progression of both the storm and the fire is amazing.
