A Dream

The night is cold, and I’m alone at once,
But silence fills the room
I begin to shut my eyes,
And I can only assume
As I sleep through the night
I hear a voice
Is it you, could it be you?
That I rejoice
I even hear your keys
And even feel your hand
When I open my eyes
There, no one stands
I continue to sleep, mind at rest
At the sound of the clock
I feel my chest
Beating fast, rapidly, out of control
I get myself together
That’s when I compose
I look out the window
To the dawn early scene
I shed a tear and realize
It was only a dream
